I just have a couple questions regarding RPA selection and EA slots. I know last year cadets were asked before field training if they wanted to apply for a rated slot, is that correct? As a non tech I want to go rated and I know the selection for rated non tech is a lot better than non tech non rated so will my cadre ask us this before they send in our packets for SFT selection. Also, how does one get selected for RPA, do they look at pilot and nav scores from the AFOQT? Is there a certain equation they have like for pilot and CSO? Do i need to take TBAS if I want to go RPA? Any more information on getting an RPA slot would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Yes last year cadets going up for EA/Field Training were asked to apply for Rated/ Non Rated.
You will be given a memorandum which you will state if you will be going for a Rated EA.

To compete for the Pilot & RPA board you will need to have a PCSM score. Which consists of AFOQT-Pilot score, TBAS score and Flight Hours.
CSO/ABM score consists of your AFOQT-N and AFOQT-AA score.

Hmm I cannot tell you exactly. But strive to have the highest scores possible.

For the average pilot select last FY the average PCSM was around 57.1
I don't know about CSO or ABM but when I do find out that information I will share it with you.

I would think if you put RPA as your number 1 you will have no problem getting it.

There is a thread going right now about the RPA issue on this site. Military news. Last week Military Times announced that their flight pay will max out at 1500 a month. Fixed frame Pilots max out @845. RPA pilots currently are not being offered a bonus like their counterparts.

The problem for RPAs according to the article is they need 300 a year to wing, but can only wing @180 a year. At the same time they are losing RPA pilots at a faster pace....hence the need to get 300 winged.

A few years back, maybe two years ago HQ AFROTC offered cadets that were willing to sign on as CSO or ABM ROTC scholarships and guaranteed SFT/EA. That was how bad they were hurting. It is no longer being offered as far as I am aware of.

There is/was a poster here that LY given an RPA slot, to his much chagrin. I don't know many that place RPA as number one over Pilot which is why I said impo I don't think he will have a problem.
~ Just from my limited knowledge as an F15E WSO wife and Mom of a pilot, most that want to fly a fixed wing will rank Pilot, CSO than RPA on their list.

A very close friend is at Creech. If anyone that is thinking about RPAs want to talk to him, please feel free to pm me. He is an O5.
