Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question...

We are researching crosstown schools for AFROTC because there are no local detachments. The nearest ones are at least 40 min. away.

The AFROTC page at one school says you must enroll for the AS101, AS102, AS103 courses at their school even if you are enrolled at another school. Each course is 1 credit, and you take one course per quarter (3 quarters/year). The tuition/fees for that state school for 0-6 credits (part time) is $1,400 per quarter.

Does this mean that if DS enrolls at the local State U and does ROTC at that crosstown school he would pay the tuition to his regular school and an additional $4,200 to the crosstown school to do ROTC there?

No, you don't pay tuition to the DET or crosstown school, if the crosstown school is officially connected to his/her college on the AFROTC website.

You shouldn't pay to take your AS classes all four years, even if you are a crosstown university and the classes are taken at the host university. This is a part of the agreement the Air Force makes with the host college. Even if you attend the host university, you do not pay extra to take the AS classes.
