I am a AFROTC Scholarship Recipient, and they told me I have to report to the detachment a week early before school and I didn't know if the university allows you to move into your dorm a week early or if you are required to get a hotel room? Also is there any way to participate in your detachments activities during the summer? Or anything at all you are allowed to participate in? I want to get involved as quickly as possible and decided to try my luck on this forum!

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'd call the detachment at FSU and ask them these questions. I'm sure they have a plan.

At our DS's college I know if you call housing they will allow you to do an early move in date. Just explain to them that you need to be there for ROTC by x date. If the RA's are in the dorms they usually will let you move in. It is a secret they don't divulge. It is also school by school, but my guess FSU would be like our DS's school. He moved in a week before the move in date because as a ROTC cadet instructor, and OOS he had to be there 1 week prior for orientation.

Ag is right you can call the det., but not every college talks to ROTC, so it is best to get clearance from housing.

The issue for you will be the dining halls are not open yet, so you will need to find another way to eat until they open the dining halls.

There is nothing happening during the summer at ROTC, even the POCs don't come back for a week or so before the cadets must show up.

It is great you are excited, but instead of wishing your life away by moving so quickly into your future, use the summer as one last time of cutting loose with friends.

You will not get ranked as a better cadet because you cleaned up the det before the freshman cadets showed up. You get ranked as a better cadet because of what you accomplish as a cadet.
