AFROTC Hopefull

"I know it is early but I want this and I'm going to do what it takes to get it."

Thats awesome, you are researching and getting a plan. Thats definitely the way that you want to start out. I would also encourage you to not worry over stuff. You have stated that vision and grades are a little problem but like reaper has said there are solutions to these problems. If you can really knock out some good grades it will help you out so much. For FT its 15% (and weighs heavily on the 50% CC ranking). This means its about ~55% of the EA ranking. Choose your classes wisely. Sit down for a couple of hours and research professors and how they grade. My 1st two years in ROTC I didn't care when classes were scheduled. If Profs were giving out As in some classes that I needed, then I was going to make time to attend them. Its all a game, be smart with it. Get the EA and then think about rated stuff. Best of Luck!

Thanks man. I hope my dedication pays off. Once August rolls around I'll update the thread

Will do, I've got any app for my pushups/situps training and I go to the public track near my house and do my running. I'm shooting for 100 on the PFA. I can run a mile in 6:32 right now but before the test I want to be at 5:30. When I started I was running it in 7:54 so I've seen very good results.

I can do about 95 pushups in sets of about 20 and 120 situps in sets of 20-30. I'll be testing myself again soon to rescore my one minute mark.
My current (over 1 month old) scores are 42 pushups and 35 situps. That was just me at a sedentary level. Now I've been practicing and I know for a fact the scores will be better.

If anyone is looking to improve pushups or situps there's a wonderful app called '100 pushups' and another called '200 situps'.

I will probably do my mock PFA tomorrow.

Make sure you do the proper form, traditionally this is where cadets get in trouble. They try to get high numbers and that causes the form too be incorrect, which uses up energy and time.

They will be sticklers during the PFT for the form.

Keep in mind that the minimum sit-ups for males is 42 per min. If you fail one portion, you fail the entire test. But you have plenty of time to improve, just make sure your keeping good form. I found this document to be particularly useful when practicing last summer. It is the same score sheet that will be used when you take the official PFA.

Yeah I haven't done sit ups in well over 4 years. I'm in decent shape and have always responded well to PT. I'm redoing my test tonight to give a real measure of the progress I have made. I've been practicing my form for pushups and going to a full 90 degree down position. Sit ups look much better now that I've done a few workouts on them. From what I've seen on the test they look for shoulders touching the floor and elbows touching knees. Pushups they look for full 90 and an almost locked elbow right? Thanks for that link too.

I don't know if you can download the CFA for the AFA, but if you can, I would. It shows the degrees regarding the form for each section.

AFROTC dets will follow that form. The worse thing you can do is improper form because they will nail you, and now 1 bad form means at least 2 before it counts.

Specifically regarding pushups, don't forget that you have to lock out to be considered 1 full pushup (... at least for Army).

Well I took my mock pushup/sit up one minute drill and I'm impressed by my jump in under a month. I made sure to keep perfect form on each and I managed 62 pushups and 47 sit ups. That's up from 42 pushups and 35 sit ups. The sit ups get exponentially harder after 40 so I see why the gap from passing at 42 and max at 57 is only separated by 15 sit ups.

I went to 90 and locked out my pushups and ensured proper arm placement and full vertical lift on my sit ups. My plan is working great right now and I still have well over a month before school even starts back.

I ran another 2.5 miles tonight and have been running 4-5 nights a week for about a month also and my waist is a 35.5 so almost there. I figured anything I can do to make perfect scores will pay off in the end. Maybe scoring a 100 on the PFA will show my determination/drive and pay off down the road.

Thanks for the info and links. I was worried about my numbers before I started the test but once I started I realized how much better in shape I am now.

*Oh yeah, tomorrow I'm going to finalize my flight training payment and I should probably have my PPL in the next 6-9 months.

Hello,

That's good that you have been running 4-5 times a week. I believe running is the biggest percentage when it comes to your PFA score. I have faith that you will get that 100 as long as you keep working out. Try doing different ab workouts to strengthen your core muscles that way you can improve your situps. This goes for doing different arm workouts to increase number of pushups/min as well. If I can max out on pushups and situps then you can too!! I know male cadets requirements are higher though, but you're making great progress. :shake: Also, good luck on raising your GPA up, I am on the exact same boat.
