Has anyone had any contacts with cadets that started Max 5 field training on July 16th? My boyfriend is currently there and I sent a letter to him through priority mail that arrived last Friday. It was just returned to me today however, with a slash through the address and a stamp checked "unclaimed."

Does anyone know how the mail arrives there? I know the post office is on base but do cadets have to go to the post office and pick up their own mail, or is it delivered to them? I don't see how the letter could have gone unclaimed by him...

    Any responses would be appreciated!

Maddy, my DS sent letters to cadets at Max 3 that came back the same way. He had put down FTU 2 like instructed to, but actually you need to put down the actual Max number down. For you that would be FTU 5, FLT (whatever flight he is in). My DS remailed the letters with FTU 3 on them and they were delivered. Hope this helps.

    FlyingWildCatDad,

Thank you! That definitely helps! I just resent a letter yesterday but had no idea so I sent it again with FTU 2. Thank you so much!

Maddy, I think you should have put FTU 5 on your address, not FTU 2. My son is at Max 4 FT now and we put FTU 4 on his letters and he DID receive them.

My son also said to put FTU 2? I haven't received them back yet?

    Sanity,

Yes, I heard they were all told incorrectly to put down FTU 2. You'll probably get the returned within a week or two. That's what I was told by USPS. Mine was sent back within two days, which is odd because they are supposed to hold letters longer. They're investigating why and will get back to me, but in the meanwhile I just went ahead and wrote another letter, this time correctly addressed.

Yes, thank you. I went ahead and addressed a letter to him today with FTU 5. I called AFROTC and they confirmed it with someone on base.

I'm not sure it really matters. As long as the letter has the address and cadets name. I had someone put the wrong max and FTU, and it still got to me.

No, you are correct with FTU 2.

I was at Max 3 and FTU 1 was Max 1-2 and FTU 2 is Max 3-5. It stands for Field Training Unit which represents the staff that are they in that period.

Oh wow. I wonder why the person I spoke to at the base told me otherwise. At any rate, I hope my next letters are returned to me again. I hear that the post offices on base are a mess due to the volume of mail they receive though, so I guess I can't blame them too much.

What are their names? I'll see if I can find them. Maybe they might end up in my flight. I promise I won't yell at them any worst if I know their names. :)

His name is Andrew Robert Atehortua. He's in Flight November :)

May be they are not sure? I originally put FTU 3 when I was there until I was corrected by the FTO and CTA.

Yeah you may see some returned. There is a lot of mail going in and out and they are all going to Maxwell AFB. It then needs to be transported to Camp Shelby. We would get days of absolutely no mail and then days where everyone got like 5 letters.

Atehortua? That's a cool name! I don't even know where to start to pronounce that. Hahaha. I'll give him a little shoutout when I find him. What would you like me to tell him that's personal enough so he knows it's from you? You can private message me if you'd like :D
