AFROTC Pilot Slot Chances

Not shocked by that since they announced the can't push enough through via RPA.

I will say we were briefed that RPA drops out of UPT were being considered (as of two weeks ago) but its not official yet. There was a rumor that the AF might stack an upcoming OTS class with RPA slots to expedite the process of getting their vacancies filled. I think they wanted to avoid pulling from UPT if possible because of the potential for negative morale that it would stir up. We had two people at XL volunteer to drop their UPT slots head off to Randolph but that has been it so far.

But like everyone has said, you are an officer 1st and a pilot second. The needs of the AF come first and they expect you to perform exceptionally wherever they place you.

It's now official. Here's an excerpt of the statement released yesterday:

With the 18x RPA career field not at full capacity to reach manning requirements to fulfill current demands, the Air Force is in the process of re-posturing itself for enduring RPA operations. The decision has been made by the Chief of Staff to once again continue supplying rated pilots from UPT to fulfill RPA assignments. For the next year starting with the upcoming 15-13 class, there will be 2 RPA slots per assignable graduation class at each base (Columbus, Vance, and Laughlin) for a total of 6 RPAs per assignment class. These two assignments will be primarily sourced from T-1s due to fighter cockpit manning. While T-1s are the primary source, the exact ratio of T-1s to T-38s is unknown at this time.

If they do that for a year I would think that should get them back up when you also add in RPA training at San Antonio. I would think 15-12 students are very happy right now.

My only question is how this will impact the other airframes later on. I know right now they are saying that even the 250K bonus being offered for fighters is not going at the rate they hoped for, and the heavy world is also leaving faster than they want due to the airlines starting to hire. If they don't increase the size of the UPT classes, than it just feels like they keep putting their fingers in the dam to stop the water from gushing through.
