AFROTC Rated Board 2015

Yes, he still has a chance.
Congrats to everyone who got slots. If the information is available, would anyone mind posting the average stats of people who got slots vs those who didn't? Some of us still have a few days until we hear, but getting a general feel for selection would help.

Judging from the posts of people I went to FT with, it seems like there was a larger percentage of people who didn't get rated slots at all than in previous years.
Anecdotally it does appear that the percentage awarded to rated was less... Maybe 80-85%.

76% of people who applied for rated, got rated. There were 381 pilot slots. Can't remember the other numbers, sorry.

If one were not picked up for any rated position, could they go up for the supplemental board or are they just stuck on the alternate list?

Walked into my Colonel's office today, and despite having the highest GPA and PCSM score of everyone in my det who applied for pilot, I didn't get picked up for anything. People with lower scores did get picked up though, my Colonel didn't even know what to say. He said perhaps there was an administrative mistake and my package was passed over for review....Oh well, I'm not going to cry about it. At this point I'm either going to do Civil Engineering Corps for the Air Force, or volunteer for voluntary separation and apply for Navy OCS with an aviation contract. Sorry to all of those who didn't get selected this year, due to new policies for FT slots it was a lot more competitive.

I also rated my preference high for pilot, and low for every thing else. This definitely affected it.

Had the same Navy idea. Heard it could be done.

Separately, isn't everyone who wasn't selected technically an alternate?

I am noticing a trend with this. A cadet from my det and another from FT didn't get slots and their only high preference was pilot, the rest were low interest.

I also had good scores but wasn't selected. There was an error the morning of where my name wasn't updating in Wings so maybe it was an administration error? I'm hoping to compete in the fall for the supplemental board.

Does anyone know how the alternate/supplemental board works?

What were your stats?

My son was not given a pilot slot. He was one of four at his detachment. His stats were gpa 3.4, pfa 94 PCSM 89. He had low ranking at FT. He feels this may have impacted his unit ranking as well. He's a quieter type and evidently his FT commander saw this as weakness. Still he is very active in his unit and surprised and disappointed in the results.
Good luck to all the alternates who have worked so hard for many years to reach their dreams .

Hope this is helpful.

I am curious from the posters that did not get rated how they ranked the other three rated slots? Maybe, natehanibal has hit on something.

usa777,

An 89 PCSM is not shabby at all, quite the contrary!

What is his major? Sometimes with engineering majors the AF takes a very small percentage. It might be his degree and not the PFA.
~ IE a few years back they took very few ME majors for rated because they needed them elsewhere.

I wish you the best of luck.

Just a suggestion, while home on spring break you might want to visit a Navy recruiter and see if this is possible. I say this because if Navy boards are like AF, the rated boards are held at different times than nonrated. If they have enough in the pipeline like the AF has had in years past they might cancel them.

I would also research if they are going to do voluntary separation for AFROTC. It maybe that they will not offer it. Just my guess, but with such a small class size I doubt they will.
~ That and 1.98 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.
However, if you do your research with both AFROTC and Navy recruiter you might be able to get in front of it, and have it all settled before your fall semester ends as a senior.

Have you visited baseops.net?

I do not know how the supplemental board works, but...

DS had a friend picked up from the alternate list. Got RPA out of it. This didn't happen until March of his senior year. There are cadets that will go to WPAFB for their 3 day FC1 physical and DQ somewhere along the line. Just like DoDMERB they will go through a waiver process and it can take months.

A poster here (homewith4) had her DS DQ at Wright Pat. for UPT. It took @6 months for him to get the final notification that he would not be waived.

My guess is that like my DSs friend picked up on the alternate list slots open along the way and they go from the OML.

Just a guess from anecdotal information.

Pima,
My son is a non tech major...Aeronautical Science. He has 100+ flight hours which probably helped greatly with his PCSM score.
Hopefully, he'll get selected for a rated slot as an alternate, But he is having a hard time understanding what happened.

I truly appreciate your insight and knowledge throughout all the years . It's been most beneficial in so many ways.

For those considering Navy as an alternative, my rumor mill tells me that the Marine Corps is looking (I think the word desperate was used) for pilots. Don't really know if it's true, and if it is why it would be true. I just wanted to mention it so if you do talk to a Navy recruiter you might discuss this option as well.

Did he low score everything else?

IOWS, took CSO/RPA/ABM off the table?

As I always state they tweak things year after year.

Honestly I am shocked at the low number for pilot in one way, 381 is only about 60 more than Laughlin pushes through within a year. Now add in Vance, Columbus and ENJJPT.
~ Not shocked in another way....the pipeline is clogged....even USAFA grads are waiting 9 months casual status to start UPT.
~~ DS just completed C130J schoolhouse. The simulators were running 24/6 days a week and 12 he's on Sunday to get them through.
~~ RPAs can only get 240 through a year and need 300 to stay on target for manning.

Not shocked in another way.
~381 is on target for % that go rated from the commissioning class.

I've been watching this thread for a couple days now, thought I'd throw in my 2c.

I didn't get picked up. I selected high interest for pilot, medium for CSO, and low for the others. My numbers were decent - most were above last year's pilot averages. My PCSM score was really the only thing that concerned me. We had 10 cadets go up. I don't know the status of all of them, but from what I know so far we've got 3 pilots, 1 CSO, 1 RPA, and 2 didn't get picked up (myself included). I'd make a guess on the other three, but apparently all assumptions are out the door for this board. My commander told me I was "pretty high up" on the alternate list - wish I knew exactly how high up.

That being said, anybody have numbers on what percentage of those who get picked up DQ or decline? In the class above me, we had 2/7ish DQ medically from my Det.

I had high for Pilot and CSO, medium for RPA, and low for ABM.

We had 7/10 get selected for rated slots. 5 pilots, 1 CSO, and 1 ABM. Out of the pilots 4 were technical majors (1 EE and 1 Meteorology). I've been tracking the stats for awhile and this year seems funky with the way the results turned out.

I'm eager to see what the national averages are.

I'm guessing that if there was a ~70% acceptance, there would be roughly 100-150 cadets reboarded for non-rated jobs. If they even get the chance to reboard.

Interestingly enough, one of the commenters earlier mentioned something that makes me think they will be boarded separate from the Fall board and be put against one another.

At least I know now rated kids were not guaranteed jobs.
