AFROTC Rated Boards 2016

Hey guys I know this is unrelated but I was wondering how everyones detachment does flight suits. The AFI specifically says to issue FDU to AS400s but I know plenty of other detachments that have been issuing it to AS300s who recently got categorized. I tried finding the AFI AFROTC supplement but the most recent version is 2010. Anyone have insight on this?

Okay so the AFROTCI basically says the FDU can be issued to cadets that have been notified of rated categorization. Usually a lot of dets will wait till 400 year to save cadets embarrassment if they get medically DQed over the summer, but by the regs you can get your FDUs now. I have mine and they're soooo comfy

This is from the actual AFI AFROTC supplement I found(2013):
8.2.4.1. (Added-AFROTC)Issue FDUs to authorized cadets at the beginning of the AS 400 year,or immediately upon notification of categorization selection if currently enrolled in AS 400 or later.

The "issued to cadets that have been notified of rated categorization" only counts if you are already a AS400, which means you were on a 4.5/5yr track. I tried getting my cadre to let us but you have to be an AS400.

Ohhh gotcha. That's the 2013 version. There's a new one out as of 15 May 2015. It reads

8.2.4.1. (Added) Issue FDUs to authorized cadets upon notification of rated (pilot, RPA, CSO,
ABM) and missile categorization and the completion of Field Training, whichever occurs later.

Doesn't say anything about AS400s anymore so you're good to go!

Whenever you do get your flightsuit immediately go and get the seat seam reinforced immediately, or at the very least over the summer. The quality of the flightsuits have gone down over the past years and it is known in the AD world that the seat seams now blow out over time.
~ My DS sends his off to get reinforced before he ever wears them just for that fact, he does it when he has his rank sewn on.

OBTW, the ADAF xtrain board dropped and they took a hard hit numbers wise. Only 15 compared to 45 last year. It will be interesting to see when the OCS board drops in the next few weeks to see their numbers compared to last year.

If the numbers are higher than you can see it as what they said in the AF Times, but if it is lower than last year, that would mean overall the AF is slowing down the spigot to get back to lower wait time for UPT.

The PCSM is a % of the WCS. I believe it is 20%. The scores include other things their ranking (big %), their cgpa, their PFA, ranking out of SFT.

Being a CTA to me means they could be a shining star at their unit. In turn, that means the biggest % (ranking) and add in if they have a strong cgpa, a low PCSM could just be a ding and allow them to still score high enough on the OML to get a pilot slot.

Just putting that out there so posters do not get false hope regarding chances for pilot slot. Think about it....how many CTAs are there nationally during SFT. Not a lot when you compare them to how many apply for rated. Maybe 5%.

I would also say for them, beware. Share with them Raimius's blog (it is his signature line here with a link). It is true to what life will be like as a UPT student. Getting a pilot slot is the easiest part. I believe statistically 90+% get pilot as a C300. However, 3 yrs from now when they wing, 35%+ will not wing.
~ 3 yrs because 1 yr left in ROTC, 1 yr wait time to start UPT, and 54 weeks at UPT.
~~ JMPO as a spouse and a Mom of a pilot. The AF is trending now in a more efficient way with regards to lowering wash out rates. PCSM includes flight hours and TBAS. You can be the best ROTC cadet, the highest cgpa, and the most physically fit, but when you get to UPT, the IPs don't give a crap about that. The slate is wiped clean. Now it is about landing a T6/38 or 1 with cross winds. It is about flying in finger tip formation. It is about your real world life is no down time for a yr if you want to wing.

I am not trying to divert the thread. I am trying to impress upon all of those going up that it is easier to get a pilot slot than it is to wing, especially when the biggest % is your CoC ranking.

I will also say, YEP the AF is short on pilots, but the AF also knows that the pipeline is clogged, and cannot get them through fast enough. Currently, even if you get an EAD of October, it is common to be casual status for 6 months. USAFA grads are also waiting a yr to start UPT.
~ The AF produces @1200 pilots annually. The retention rate is horrible now even with 6 figure bonuses. The last I read, they had @30% takers for the pilot bonus.
~ On top of that UPT for the entire FY16 dropped 2 RPA slots for every class out of every UPT base. minus ENJJPT. Getting a pilot slot no longer equates to flying a manned airframe.

Just saying

PCSM is 40%, RSS is 25%, FT rank is 15%, GPA 10%, PFA 10%. He probably just shined in every other facet, because a 33 pcsm is half the average pcsm for last year. Its nice to get a few flight hours to see if you even like flying. Flying a C152 through turbulence might make you think harder about being a pilot, than not flying at all.

I think they may have stopped dropping RPA slots through UPT after FY16, seeing as they dropped a lot more RPA slots this past year then they did the year before.

FY16 is not done yet.

RPA school is like UPT schoolhouses. They are operating at 110%. They are actually pulling pilots from the Op world after their 1st assignment into the RPA world because the RPA is sooooooo short.

Honestly it is not pretty in the rated world, be it manned or unmanned. Their retention rate is way below 50%. I believe it is below 30%.

The AF is in dire straights as far as my opinion goes. They can't push more through the pipeline. It is not just UPT, but the airframe school houses are running 24/7 6 days a week and 12 hrs on the 7th day of the week. DS had many sims at 2:00 a.m.

That being said for the incoming class of 2021. The military is cyclical regarding retention. Right now the airlines are hiring at an insane rate. However, they have an X amount of pilots they need. Once filled they will not be hiring at that same rate. Thus, AF pilots will start to accept that 6 figure bonus at a higher rate. In turn, the AF will need less pilots in the pipeline.
~~ Nobody here can predict those numbers.

By FY16, I meant FY16 commissioniees. For the FY17 commissionees (FY16 Rated Board) they had a lot more RPA slots drop, to the tune of like 60 more.

Fun fact as well for those going to UPT, they dropped the first F35 slot at Columbus AFB a few months ago :bounce1:
