I got a type 7 but want to convert it to a 3 year type 2. the way it sounds from the website is that you don't get a monthly stipend your freshman year because the scholarship doesn't activate until sophmore year. but my brother says the guys down at his detachment on a 3 year type 2 are getting the stiped their first year.
Anyone know the deal? Maxwell AFB isn't answering the phones so I'm kinda just asking around.

You do not get the stipend, b/c you are not going to be implementing the scholarship until your sophomore year. You join ROTC, but many kids that are in ROTC do not have scholarships. For our DS there are @50 freshman and only 3 have scholarships, those kids get the stipend.

Im currently a freshman with a 3 year type 2. No stipend or book allowance or anything until contracting sophomore year.

hmmm i just talked to an officer at SDSU, and he said you will get stipends in your first year if you are doing the type 2 3-year

You do get the stipend for the 1st year of the 3 yr...in other words your soph yr. Maybe the student you apoke did not understand what you were asking. If he/she is getting as a freshman on the 3 yr program, I wouldn't be surprised that when A & F fgures it out the next yr that student will not receive anything

Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors and $500 for seniors.

KEY WORDS UPON ACTIVATION, accepting the scholarship is not the same as activating. The 3 yr scholarship will not be activated until your soph yr.
