I got great news today from a letter from the mailman, "Congratulations, you have received a Type 7 AFROTC Scholarship (technical major)". I have been checking my application tracker daily since the board met with no change to my status (still none). I am so excited, what a great early Christmas present!

Congrats to you looks like Santa came early!

Now no doing something stupid over the break like deciding that even though it is your a 1st time snowboarder you can handle a black diamond trail!

Thank you along with everyone else for helpful advice on the scholarship process, I'm on cloud 9 right now!! And trust me, I won't be doing anything stupid haha. I've also been accepted to my #1 school (University of Kentucky) in the engineering department, I'm majoring in computer science.

Another Computer Science Bro, eh. I picked Psychology for my majors but I am now leaning towards Computer Science. Can I change my major if I get the scholarship (here's to hoping the mailman brings a letter)? Congratulations.

You should contact ROTC with your decision. Switching from a non-technical to a technical major may help your chances a little. If AFROTC is like NROTC, there's a limit to how many non-technical scholarships they can give out.

nuensis is correct a non-tech major is more competitive to receive a scholarship than a tech, even when you go up for boards(SFT and Rated) tech majors get an edge over non-tech and that is why you read about the gpa differentiation between the two.

I do not know your stats, so I wouldn't begin to make a leap that by doing so they will now convert you into a 2. The reality is 75% of all scholarships are Type 7, 20% are 2's, and 5% are 1s.

I am not even sure if they would because I would assume that would mean they would have to re-board you for the WCS to see if it was your intended major that placed you in the 7 pile and not the 2.
