Does anybody know if the Air Force offers any summer programs for cadets? I know the Navy does summer cruises and I was wondering if the Air Force had anything similar?

The AF does NOT offer any Summer programs other than SFT....and they reduce the length of that program so the cadets would not be paid. I believe both the Army and Navy have some Summer program options.

Navy definitely does. Every Midshipman on contract does a summer cruise. And, I might add, gets paid.

There is Project GO which is available to all ROTC branches if you're interested in learning a language and traveling abroad for next to nothing.

There is also a slim chance to be selected for special CRO[Combat Rescue Officer] training following FT. It seems really selective and I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't know someone who did it last year.

AFROTC will sometimes have "unofficial" programs that are done in the summer. Our detachment is relatively close to local AFB and we are allowed to participate in the Ops Air Force program with the Academy cadets. The difference is that you have to pay for transportation and lodging if you live far away.

Most of my ROTC group just drove 30 min to base. But once on, you have full access to the shadowing program (incentive flights, simulated training, mentorship boards....etc). If you don't have this program at your det and you are by a base then be the cadet that sets that up. With the facetime and task that would be accomplished, I would argue you would easily be able to pull a high CC ranking assuming everything else is in order.
