I found this AIM flyer that explains the program to high school juniors.
On the second page, it says:

"In the event we cannot accommodate all applicants, a lottery will be utilized to choose among eligible applicants.

So I think that they accept people who have the qualifications regardless of the quota. In the end if there happens to be a larger number of qualified applicants than the quota can hold, then they will use the lottery system.

I hope I haven't been mistaken. :confused: What I put forward was from (if I remember correctly) CAPT Finton at an on-base Admissions briefing. That was a couple years ago now, though.
 
I'm going to assume that every year more people apply than there are spaces available, so I think the lottery system is applied every year. Based on the assumption of course.
 
Any idea when notifications are being released?

My DS applied to AIM 2014, completed all essays just in case and should fare well on all counts...but it's killing me not to plan our summer and was wondering if anyone has any feedback on when we're notified either way. I heard early May but boy..the summer is fast approaching. Thank you.

I think it varies year by year, but you are correct -- early may is the general range. I've heard as early as May 1st and as late as May 8th -- we are talking early early May.

Matty is right. Just checked the website... "AIM applicants will be notified of their decision by May 9th" The wait is nerve racking!
 
actually a little longer than a couple of days...

like a couple of days + 5 days.

Yes I am pretty close to there.
I never tried surfing however for being close to the beach. 8)

I loved the San Diego USS Museum and of course Sea World when I went to SD. :p
