    Hello all,

First time posting on this forum and I have a somewhat deep question. This is my 250 year in Air Force ROTC and it has been going exceptionally well so far (even into the more intensive beginnings of FTP training.) My grades have been steadily going up year after year to a 3.41 in Information and Database Science (Non-Tech). My PT has also been really great with hitting my PFA tests at 98 and 100. I am active in the detachment but have held no serious jobs. I have 100% attendance in all I do and also make sure that I am signed up to do detachment cleanups, inventory, and social events every weekend with my fellow cadets. I have achieved high POC evaluations and I think my detachment commander appreciates my character.
The only bad news is that my SAT scores that have haunted my past have come to trouble me yet again. I worry it will drag me down during the Enrollment Allocation process as I understand from rumors it is something like 35% of the total score these days. Right now my Verbal/Math composition is something like a 960 the first time and then a 980 the second time I took the dreaded thing. I have recently studied my hiney off over the holidays and took the AFOQT a week ago. Though I haven’t gotten my scores back yet, I feel that I have gotten roughly ¾ of the verbal and maybe only ½ the math portions correct after all of my effort (Yeah I am a horrible aptitude test taker.) Unfortunately or maybe fortunately I feel that the rest of the test went extremely well, however none of the later will count toward the academic aptitude section of the AFOQT score.
Now that I am done ranting, here is the serious question. I am prepared to fight for an EA till the bitter end this semester, but realistically, will my aptitude score drag me down so much that I have no chance at all?
Thank you, I needed to vent,
    -Ken Powers

Don't know the answer to your question but your cadre will. I'll pose another question to which I don't know the answer. Is it possible to retake the SAT at this point and have it apply? What about the ACT?

I wouldnt worry about it. The AFOQT and SAT scores aren't a major component of your package. I don't know who said SATs were 35% of the package...that's not how it was last year or the year before. If they did change it, your APAS would be the person to ask.

As long as your GPA and commander's ranking are high, you should be golden. Its only seems to be cadets with low GPAs or rankings that are really helped or hurt by the smaller components (PFA/AFOQT).

If I were in your position my biggest concern would be the non-tech major. I'm sure you already know how the AF favors engineers/tech majors. But again with a high GPA/commander's ranking it shouldn't be a problem. I've never seen a cadet ranked in the top 1/3 get denied an EA (regardless of major).

    Hope that helps. Good luck

I am pretty sure that I is a little too late to apply for them now...if I remeber correctly College board makes you schedule almost 2 months in advance and I think that the packets go out/close the 24th of February for AFROTC EA. I probably should have thought ahead, but I was so confident in the AFOQT after studying so much :frown:

They often allow you to register late for a fee if it is not full. Just saying. But based on Nick's post it really doesn't matter.

This is true, your cadre should have already met and racked and stacked the 200's,250's, and 500's. At least my cadre did this past break. I don't believe the weighting has changed this year at all. But ever since they are restricting the number of EA's now, they have been strongly favoring tech majors. At our detachment last year, no tech majors were dropped. As long as you're doing everything else right, SAT scores should be the least of your worries. But again be wary being a non-tech.

I would worry about it too, because from what I have heard SAT or AFOQT scores may very well be counting for 35% of your score for this year. Don't let the other people talk you out of NOT worrying about it. They maybe did not in the past, but may very well this year.

All I'm saying is what's done is done. Packages from most detachments have been sent off already. No need to put added stress to something that you can't control. And if you don't get an EA, then hey, you can become a 500 and retake the SAT and have that score in your new package.

I don't think packages will be officially sent out until the 24th of February (or if they have sent packages they can be changed in the database until that date.) From my understanding nominations have been sent out over Holiday break, but in reality I have heard that everyone that wants to compete for an EA gets the nomination. To support this 10 of my fellow cadets took the AFOQT and I would hope the Det. did not send our packages without getting our scores back yet. Plus, I here that there will be one last PFA before the 24th and a mentor session with the commander (that will be his last feelings toward the rack and stack.)

Right now, I think I can still sign up for the SAT on the 28th of January and get the results back online in 2 to 3 weeks. It'll be cutting it close to the deadline but might as well try for it.

Call your det on Tuesday (tomorrow is a fed holiday). They will have the real answer, on here all you are going to get is supposition. Nobody sits on the SFT board. We can give you a broad stroke on how it works regarding dates, but that is it.

Nick and daniel, I have been told by several people that during Nov. they were informed the selection process changed, not only for SFT, but for rated 13. They are reducing the % of CC and increasing other %. This is the 1st yr for the change. I would assume Powers45 is correct about the 35%, but not the way he is thinking, because remember they do get briefed about the process as 200/250s. Remember Nick as a C100 you took the AFOQT, but for class of 13 they moved it to their C200 yr. Things change year to year.

Powers, just push forward with what you can control now, and that means talking to your command. Good luck.

Will do Pima, I went ahead to schedule the SAT just for now to assure that I have a spot and I will go to the DET start of business after the holiday. Thanks!

Just remember even though you are on school break they are AD AF and only can take 30 days of leave which means they are probably all there in the office. MLK is a federal holiday.

Do you know anyone in your yr group that took the AFOQT, JIC you didn't ask if they will wait for the scores, but they did? If so can you text them?

All the cadets that took the AFOQT last week were 200 level cadets. The test was only given to cadets wanting to boost there chances for an EA. results should be in by the end of the week -maybe- as the test was given a little more than a week ago.

hey guys just wanted to update what is going on now. I've recieved my AFOQT scores on Tuesday of this week and I am trying to figure out how to compute them...

    Here are my raw scores:

    Pilot: 68
    Navigator: 51
    Academic Aptitude 54
    Verbal: 72
    Quantitative: 36 *ouch

I am trying to compute these to the SAT format but I do not know if this document is up to date. http://uwf.edu/afrotc/resources/regs/AFROTCI36-2011.pdf (on page 231 it shows a conversion chart) I think since I recieved a 54 on Academic Aptitude that means that I got a 1150? not really sure what the SAT-R means...but I would be definitively happier with the 1150 which was right below the average for non-techs last year. I still plan to take the SAT tomorrow though.

    Thank you
    -Ken

Hey guys sorry for spamming this thread/don't know if this forum has an edit button. I was talking with a friend this afternoon and he told me that the AFROTC selection board takes the most recent test. If this is the case, should I take the SAT tomorrow and go big or go home, in regards to to the rule above or should I be happy with the 1150 (if that is infact how it computes from AFOQT)?

sorry again and thank you! :thumb:

Your highest score is used (from SAT/ACT/AFOQT Academic Aptitude to SAT equivilent).

Yes you converted your score properly.

When it comes to the AFOQT however, if you retake that test, the old score is trashed and the new score becomes your permanent AFOQT score. (unless you get a waver to take it a third time, in which case THAT becomes your permanent AFOQT score).

The problem is files are closed by X date, and I highly doubt that you will be able to get those scores processed by college board, than your AFROTC det and to the board before the close date.

Yup indeed, it'll be 2 to 3 weeks to process the SAT scores I took saturday making it dangerously close to the 24 of February being the last call for the database. On the good news, I have confirmed that the AFOQT has significantly bolstered my SAT equivalent to 1150 putting me in a much better spot to compete.

Be patient and talk to your cadre. The Det here will not send the scores and rankings off until the 23rd. They are a small Det though, not sure if all Dets have that luxury of being able to update/change things at the last minute.

    Very true becksgirl.

If I were you I would personally check with the det on the 23rd to make sure they are sending the new SAT scores and not just the AFOQT.

I am glad that your scores bumped up, but remember each yr the mins will change due to the competition level and slots available, so keep striving for the highest you can get.
