How hard is it to get fighters at upt for the Air Force? what goes into it?

Is it like whoever has the best "GPA" during upt gets what they want or is there other things they evaluate you on. I am trying to be a fighter pilot and want to know how best to prepare for UPT.

    Thank you.

Be top of your class. Do well in all your academics, do well on your flights, be confident. There are plenty of books out there describing how pilots went through flight school and got fighters. Viper Pilot by Dan Hampton has a whole chapter devoted to it (great read btw). In terms of how many drop, sometimes a couple, sometimes none. Ive been told it ranges between 0-25% of drops in a UPT class, depending on luck. Just work hard, keep your mind in it, and anything is possible.

There are many steps in the pilot training process for the Air Force. There are people who get weeded out at every step of the way, so the ones who get the airframe of their choice are the ones who strive and succeed in being the best in each step. There are many threads on here that describe the process so I am not going to go over everything again. (Hint: Use the search function and put in "fighter pilot" and you'll have dozens of threads to read through). What I will say is that it is a long process, but don't get discouraged if that is truly what you want to do. My son wanted to be a fighter pilot, and he became one. It does happen, but there needs to be a constant drive to be the best. Even now with my son being in an operational unit for three years, the competitiveness doesn't stop. Good luck.

Your UPT ranking is mainly based off checkride and daily ride scores. Flight commander's ranking and academic average also make-up a smaller percentage of the overall score. Based off of your past posts it looks like you are waiting to hear if you got a pilot slot. At this point, I would suggest just taking things one step at a time. Get the slot and then just focus on graduating college. If you end up at UPT work hard, have a good attitude and be a bro to your classmates. Best of luck dude.
