We recently returned from Summer Seminar at the Airforce Academy with our DD. Now, if you haven't noticed, I am a Navy mom. But, I am 99 percent sure that our daughter will apply to the USAFA. And.......I am super thrilled about it because it seems like a better fit for her personally than USNA. Our DS has been giving her quite the time as he is at USNA. We will take her out to the USNA summer seminar this weekend to see how she likes it, but I feel in my heart that AFA is the place for her. As we were shopping in the AFA store and enjoying the sites of Colorado, I told my husband I felt like I was cheating on the USNA! :) I felt guilty saying Go Airforce. I felt guilty buying an AFA tshirt. I know that I have posted on this before, but now as I get closer to the realization, it is kind of a wierd feeling. I would like to hear from other parents who are in a similar situation.

It's all good. Just enjoy. We have had a number of sponsor mids over the years, with siblings at other SAs. What we hear from their parents is just be in the moment with them at their place and be dressed appropriately! It's also quite common to have parents with one service background whose kids choose another. As I said, all good, if that's their best fit. Pat yourself on the back for creating an environment where they felt free to make the decision.:thumb:

Son was at USMA preinterview at WP, DD One was already USNA . I was AF enlisted. Major asked if youngest was going CG to fill it out. DD one got a lot of digs during the presentation (What kind of car did your parents buy you?) but all in good fun. Cheer for them all as Capt MJ says. Pat yourself on the back many times for some wonderful kids.

I would agree about the friendly debates! I am a USMA grad and my son chose USAFA. My husband is a Army ROTC product. We have a blast ribbing each other! I imagine your family will have the same types of spirited "discussions"!

Air Force and Navy

The Air Force Academy and Colorado Springs is quite a beauriful place. My son attend summer seminar five year ago. We loved it.

Good luck to your DD,

RGK

You post made me laugh because I know a family where DS1 is Navy, DS2 is Army and DD married an AF officer.

For the parents the hardest part was trying to keep straight all of the acronyms and lingo for each service.

OBTW the parents were not military, nobody in the family was military, and so when the eldest went to USNA, they were saying we have our 1st military family member! That quickly changed to our 1st Navy, 1st Army, 1st AF family member.

The other issue for them was it became incredibly expensive because each child was stationed somewhere around the world that they had to fly to see them!

I use to tell the parents it will be interesting to see if their grandchildren go military which branch they would go into since they have a unique perspective from 3 of the branches...she said probably CG and Marines because they would than keep up the tradition of the 1sts!

I was Coast Guard, I have plenty of old CG photo's and such in the house. Everytime we would take a trip down the coast we would stop at the different CG Stations along the way. Lot's of stories about the CG were shared with both boys.

Both boys went Army, one just commissioned and one is starting his second year in AROTC.

Go figure.......Couldn't be a prouder parent though.

Some of my new Ensign's staunchest supporters during her time at USNA were family and friends with Army and Air Force service time, including a retired USAF O-6 and a retired USA O-5.
