I sent an e-mail to United Airlines last week asking them if New cadets were allowed baggage fee exemptions like active duty personnel. I let them know my accepted DS was not active duty at this time. The response I received this week stated "military recruits are eligible; the recruit must present orders to receive the Military baggage exemption." The exemption is for up to 4 bags. Of course my DS only wants to check one bag, and that is only due to his desire to bring a multitool to beast. He will bring a copy of his acceptance to USMA and some info stating the time and date of R-Day in an effort to receive the baggage fee exemption. Hope this info helps someone.

Just dropped off my DS new cadet at the airport today for flight to USMA. United waived the check baggage fee when I showed the front counter person an e-mail that United sent me explaining military baggage policy and a letter showing my DS was reporting for R-Day. I also had a copy of acceptance to USMA, but the attendant didn't ask for it.
