Hello! I'm in Army ROTC and I signed my contract last week for my 4 year scholarship. I'm trying to apply for CULP, but I need my AKO Username in order to do so. I tried going to the website and putting in my social security number, but it couldn't find me in the system. Does anyone know how I'd go about getting my ako USN?

Email or call the HRC in your battalion, they should be able to walk you through it. My son had difficulties when he first tried as well. If the HRC can't help they should point you in the right direction.

Good luck with CULP

Is there any general value in a contracted cadet having AKO access? If so I will encourage my son to talk to his HR Rep about access (he doesn't have it now,) but I'm not sure what info is available to cadets on the system...Is this something he needs to have?

It's not a necessity, but there are some helpful things on there available for cadets (i.e Rosetta Stone, CULP application, etc).

Bull - is Rosetta Stone back? I thought that program went away last year...

I applied for CULP also. Do we happen to know what the "average cadet"'s GPA and such is that they end up taking? I know they asked for my ROTC GPA and my cumulative GPA, but nothing else worth noting. The packet which I received said "Traditionally, the selection rate is between 40 and 70 percent (455 selected from 1218 applicants FY11; 1194 selected from 1600 applicants in FY12)." This seems to be a rather large gap between years...

I forgot about that right after I posted, but didn't have time to come back and edit. Thanks for the correction.

AscoreD, I don't know of any averages, but I can tell you there was a guy from my battalion that went and he has a low GPA. Like low 2 point GPA.

Last year they incresed the numbers for culp, It is generally thought that the numbers will be as high if not higher this year.

The application process changed last year only requiring minimal information from the applicant such as GPA. Most of the weight of the application comes from the PMS recommendation. My son was a freshman last year so at the time of the application he did not have a college GPA to put on the application, he was told to just put his high school GPA.

The PMS at his school sent out 3 emails to certain cadets inviting them to apply, the application was open to anyone that met the requirements but only 3 emails were sent. The 3 cadets that had received the emails received CULP, I would imagine it had to do with the PMS recommendation.

I'm sure some battalions do things differenty, but that's how it went at my son's.

Best of luck

Thanks, I'm a MS3 so I'm sure I will have to work that around my LDAC dates and any other add on training I decide to do. I know we haven't sent many people to CULP in the past, but those who have gone have been MS2's. So I guess I will see how things line up for the summer.

MS3s can go but the priority I am pretty sure its for MS2s. LDAC is definitely something that takes priority that summer as well as CTLT.

My MS3 class summer breakdown:

All but two went to LDAC
7-8 CTLT (Plus me)
2-3 NSTP
2-3 Schools (One was promised in a green to gold contract the others got slots through their NG unit)
0 CULP
