A few weeks ago I found out that my medical status was changed to remedial because of one item. I am allergic to Red Food Dye #40, common in red candy, but I have never had trouble with it. I have only had a reaction a few times and the only symptoms are that my ears turn red and I get hot. If I eat too much I get hives, but I have only had that happen once and that was when I was 3 and that was when I was diagnosed. When I was diagnosed the doctor said the older I get the more I could handle and eventually should grow out of it. Currently I can eat red dye in sizable amounts before anything happens. I have to see an allergist in a few weeks, I am wondering if this is going to be a problem for my medical qualification status?

This allergy is probably not a deal breaker especially since it resulted in a remedial and not the dreaded DQ. Follow the instructions of DoDMERB and you will likely be fine. Go onto the DoDMERB website and pull the description for ...D141.50 - Allergic manifestations, history of anaphylaxis, ( I assume this is what was listed in your remedial) and bring to the allergist so they can see what the military bases their decision on. As far as allergies go this is really no big deal. Best of luck.:thumb:

I checked the code on my DoDMERB status page and it's a R141.01 (Consult Allergist regarding applicant with allergy. Evaluate). I talked to my ALO and she said she did not think it was a big deal either so hopefully it's not. Thank You!

My son also revieved a medical remedial but for a fish allergy. We did the remedial and he did test positive for a fish allergy. The Concorde site now says case closed. I did look that up and I think all that means is that the results of the remedial have now been sent to DODMERB. Does anyone know what the next step might be? This fish allergy was never diagnosed, my son was just honest on his DODMERB forms. Thanks
