So my DS now has three nomination sources for USAFA (Senator, Congressman (NE-02), and Presidential) and one of the ALOs we know recommended he call his Admissions Counselor to "share" and touch base. I seem to recall seeing others on this forum say similar things about how the Counselors are helpful and like the Candidates to call. According to my DS the Counselor basically dismissed him and was "unfriendly" toward him. Said the MOCs had to update the system themselves and his application had been to the panel. I don't know if there was much else in terms of conversation but my son felt put off and discouraged. He has also been calling the coach for the swim team who has been sending letters to him with his phone number and has gotten no response. Should he NOT have called?

Well, since it's done....there's no use worrying about it now. I doubt the AC (who probably was really busy) will remember it in a day. Congrats on the 3 noms that's great!

I would not read too much into the Admissions Counselor's response. From my DS's experience, they were always very brief but courteous. Our DS had a similar experience where he called to update his file and they were very brief. I thought "oh, not good" but several weeks later, DS received an Appointment......From what I have read and heard, they are very, very, busy this time of year and I was always surprised and grateful that they answered the phone.

Thanks for the responses. Afa is so different than USNA. My DD is USNA 16 and was discouraged from calling by the BGO. Go figure. I am hoping we hear sooner than later. AFROTC and NROTC scholarship boards both met this week for his first look. Got his USNA nomination from the congressman also. Just looking for that Christmas present!

Hi Folks!

ALO here...first, there are only 10 counselors working or the entire globe. So they do get just a tad busy. And they're typically inundated by MOC's offices, ALO's, the folks right there at USAFA/RR, high schools, junior colleges, etc...etc...

So if she was a bit short...be kind and understand they're under an amazing amount of pressure! I truly don't know how they do it.

MOC's DO have to update the portal with nomination information; that's not USAFA's. From there, as I have been briefed, the academy folks take over.

It'll work out...just takes a bit of time.

Posted to the portal

I talked to DS about what the counselor said and he agreed she was brief more than anything and as of last night DS said the Nominations have been posted to the portal so we just truly wait.....and wait.....and wait. With DD we didn't have the noms this early and at this point she was still not medically qualified due to shoulder surgery so we knew there was no chance until the waiver came through (got than in late Feb, Appt in early March). So we get the waiting. Still sucks to have the noms this early and have to wait!

Remember no MOC can be charged until every candidate on their slate has a WCS. There could be candidates that have yet to submit their CFA. Not every candidate did the Nov 1st option.

Aggghhhh

Totally forgot about that part...Hopefully "early birds" are rewarded with a higher WCS! The good news is that at this point its out of his hands. Just don't screw up the grades (any more than most seniors do with senioritis) or get arrested! DD her senior year was in coast mode and still got the appointment fortunately.
