Alpha Company assignments

Are the Alpha Company assignments random or is there a method behind who they put where?

Generally, company assignments are made with the objectives of roughly balancing M:F ratio, recruited athletes, those sort of "gross descriptor" characteristics. Each ac year company is usually a pretty good, small-scale snapshot of the Brigade.

I think they also look at geography to some extent. They don't want a disproportionate number of midshipmen from Pennsylvania in one company, for instance. Although one of my son's companies sure seemed to have a lot of Maryland midshipmen in it.
