New poster here.....I signed in on the Introduction board this morning with a few details of our situation. Let me say right now that you all are an amazing group of people, and this is a tremendous resource.

Son just received email from USCGA saying that on April 30, he can email and find out which "group of 30" alternates he's in. Apparently they group the alternates into sets of 30, and then put those groups into a particular order. That's at least SOME information to have in this period of extreme waiting anxiety.

Anyone else have any experience with this alternate grouping thing?

    alternates

    mom2five:
Our DS is in the same boat, however we interpreted the groupings differently...Group 1 has 30 (presumably the most competitive) and all the rest go into Group 2. Now, I would be happier if there were only 2 groups of 30, but I am guessing the total number is higher than 60....?
    April 30 can't come soon enough...

    you're probably right

My DS called me in a rush between classes (he's a sophomore at CalPoly), and I'm guessing I misunderstood his summation of the email. I won't see a copy of it until later when he forwards it to me.

Perhaps we can hope that if we got the email, then we're in the first group! Good luck to you all!

    thanks for the update!

That 2nd email makes it pretty clear that all we can do now is wait....although we're going to go ahead and start working on the passport and some other stuff. Thanks again, I really appreciate the info.

Welcome. I have a shipmate who went to Cal Poly (st. abisbo (sp?)). He went through OCS, and is now an ensign.

Good luck with the alternate waiting game. Hoping for the best.

It's San Luis Obispo, hard to remember unless you're from California:smile:

OCS is our Plan B, I think.
