Am I making the right choice?

greentrees,

Sounds like your son has had some great experiences in AFROTC, not sure a USMA cadet would have those opportunities which is what the OP is looking at.

He's not in AFROTC. He's at USAFA, and yes a USMA cadet would have those same opportunities.

ROTC has changed a bit over the years, no longer are RITC grads considered Reserve Officers, they are now commissioned Regular Officers which means they do not have to apply for regular officer status while

His son is at USAFA not AFROTC, it is stated very clearly

Geez...sorry, my typo. I really did mean USAFA. Got it mixed up with his father.

jlwilkes101 posted his question on the USMA forum, it was going to be obvious that he would get the opinion of mostly WP cadets and grads, I only wanted to give a view from the other side of the tracks. I'm sorry if these views came across as contrary to WP's.

I was not commissioned through a SA, never once did I feel inferior or less trained then my counterparts from the SA. Maybe that was just the way the Coast Guard was back then. I just wanted to give a perspective that was different. I am sure after all the posts this kid has sent in his grey card. If my son had read these posts prior to going to school it would have scared the heck out of him and he would have selected WP as well, my younger one will just have to suffer through.

Again, sorry for mixing up USAFA and AFROTC
