Hi everyone! I just wanted to make sure Im the right track. Im currently a sophomore. Just wanted to get some opinions!

-GPA: A's with 2 B's.(I should be able to pull up the B's to all A's by the end of the semester)
-2 varsity letters for soccer (should be 4 by end of highschool!)
    -Beta Club
    -Competitive Soccer
-Played an intrusent for 6 years
-In advanced classes and taking AP classes

-I haven't received my PLAN or PSAT scores yet.
-I plan on joining more clubs next year because it be easier when I can drive.
    - My high school doesn't offer JROTC

    Thanks in advance!

    IMPO:
-grades look good, i don't know if you're taking APs, honors; if not, aim for those
-athletics look good, maybe track in the spring to keep fit?
-i suggest joining clubs this year, that way you have a footing when officer elections come around, instead of trying to be elected as a first year club member vs. the 3-year club member (hope that made sense)
-start taking ACTs/SATs now, it'll help
-doesn't have to be JROTC, CAP maybe?

Try and find some really solid leadership positions to pursue. That's a big thing the academy looks for in addition to academics and physical fitness.

ie. Don't just join a club. Become a leader of a club, start a club, become a team captain for soccer, etc.

In addition to clubs/activities, don't overlook those beyond your school. There are clubs/groups for almost everything, so find something you really enjoy doing. Then it won't seem like "work" just for college apps, and you will likely put in the effort to shine and gain leadership without having to think of it as a chore.

For example, my school did not offer any EC's that I liked or was interested in, so I found an aeronautics and aviation related group and joined. I wasn't even thinking about college then but I loved it and as things would turn out, I now co-manage a program of about 135 people for the organization and enjoy every minute of it. It has also turned out well for college applications.

In summary: find something you like and you will be more devoted to it and it will be less tedious.

    Just my $.02.

    Dlee96,
Thanks for the imput! I think advanced is the equilvilent to honors.(my school district is wacky) I play soccer year round so it might be hard to do another sport. What is CAP?

CAP is Civil Air Patrol. http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/

If there`s not a CAP unit nearby, also look into Young Marines and Sea Cadets. They are all great programs.

I also recommend CAP. It's a great program that's helped me out a LOT.
I am in your exact position right now, sophmore, same stuff, only thing holding me back are medical DQs

Are you in scouting or any other service club? What the Academy really wants to see is leadership and service to your community. What is your position on the soccer team? If you are a captain of varsity or even JV, they want to see that. Has your team taken state or region/sectionals? That will look good too.

With your academics: KEEP YOUR GRADES UP AND LEARN THE MATERIAL!
I went into high school with the mindset of just getting good grades and remembering the information long enough for the test. Don't do that. Get good grades while learning your course material, especially in your honors and AP classes. With that said, what kind of AP/Honors classes are you in?

JROTC. Not a problem. It isn't offered at my high school or any where in my district! Something about promoting violence in the community :yllol:
Does your school do NHS (National Honors Society)? If they do, join. And join early so you have a better chance of having a leadership position in that club.

I know that several people have said to start a club. My advice is do it :shake: I currently re-started (died from last year) the AP Science Club and I am the President because of it. Start a club that is beneficial, not the "awesome society" or "The Cool Kid Club." I really, really don't think USAFA wants to see that

One final word of advise: Get close to your teachers AND your high school counselor. You will have to request teacher and counselor evaluations during your senior year and you want them to write as much good about your character as possible. The more you can show them that you are serious about school, that you are willing to learn and participate, and are mannered/polite to both teacher and classmate, the better. Also, if they do write letters for you, write them well-written thank you letters.

    Best of Luck,
    Class of 2017!!!

Find something in your community that really interests you (flying, star gazing, raising chickens - whatever), and really immerse yourself in it.

    Taking initiative is excellent.
