Am I supposed to withdraw my nomination applications from other sources if I got a principal nomination from one source?

If the title wasn't clear: I got a principal nomination (yay!) to the naval academy - my top and only choice - from my representative and now I'm wondering if I'm supposed to withdraw my name from consideration from the two senators that I asked a nomination for.

Which SA?

USNA isn’t bound by law to select principal nomination like the others.

Search the site.

Get all noms you can.

My son interviewed and told them he had an LOA and nom and let them choose. It was good practice for him to interact with adults.

I searched the site and all I found was that although the USNA isn't legally required to appoint principal nominees, they adhere to the practice for the vast majority of the time - and I have decent reason to believe I am triple qualified (34 ACT, Medically cleared, passed the CFT, etc.). I just feel like I'd be taking up spots for equally deserving people if I didn't withdraw my nomination applications.

You are almost to the finish line. Don't leave any stone unturned. You will not be taking up extra spot. I believe that having multiple nominations gives USNA flexibility on where to charge your nomination to. Once that decision is made, your extra nomination slot(s) will go to to the next person inline.

USNA does not usually inform candidates if they are fully qualified. CFA and DoDMERB Q or waiver are obvious. Scholastic-academic is generally everything else evaluated. Unless you have an LOA, it’s prudent to not assume you are fully qualified.

The USNA website recommends candidates go after every nomination for which they are eligible, which, at a minimum, is usually 2 Senators, 1 Representative and VP, plus any service-connected or ROTC noms. This gives the SA maximum flexibility as to where to eventually charge an appointment, which the appointee may never know, even if they have a principal nom.

Don’t overthink this. Trust Admissions to do its job of figuring out who they want to offer an appointment to. Focus on what you can control, continue to tend alternate plans, enjoy the here and now with family and friends.
