Hello and thank you in advance for reading this and hopefully adding your incite on to whether I am taking a shot into the dark or not trying to get into the afa

To start I am currently a Junior in high school almost finishing up my first semester, and have been looking into the air force as a possible career opportunity for the future. I would like to know my chances of getting into the afa with the below statistics.

Un-weighted GPA: 3.98
Act-Sat not yet taken (although I took the plan last year and they projected my score to be 31, I know not very accurate but all i have)
AP Classes taken/taking: ADV. CAD CEA, AP WORLD HIST., AP. LANG. COMP, AP U.S. HIST., AP PSYCHOLOGY
Diff Classes taken/taking: D Adv. Algebra, D Chemistry, D Pre-Cal, D English 10, D Biology

Academic acheivments:

A part of a very select Counseling Center's Advisory Council at my school (the council reviews and advises counselors on the schools counseling program)
Work Experience:
Landscaping and Lawn management: 2 years
Hy-Vee grocery store: 4 months-currently still working

Volunteer Work:
Huskers Helping the homeless
Fright food (Salvation Army food collecting)
Salvation Army Bell Ringing (10+ hours)
Peer Tutoring

March of Dimes

Involved In:
Math Club
Future Business Leaders of America
Soccer team: JV: Freshman-Sophomore Varsity: This year (coach told me I'm gonna make varsity for sure, I know him very well so he just told me :)
Counseling Center's Advisory Council
College Club

(Can't think of any other stuff of the top of my head =/)

As for physical condition:(These are just stats not CFA)
Mile time: 5:48 Minutes
Pacer: level 103
Pull Ups: 14 (no break)

Thank you again for looking at this and maybe taking the time to post some feedback. I know the site gets a lot of threads like this, so I am very appreciative for any feedback.

That looks pretty good to me

Learn as much as you can about life during and life of service thereafter. I do not know if it is too late to apply for the summer program at the academy, but that is probably a good way to gain perspective. If you want it go for it, those stats look pretty good.

I would encourage you speak with your guidance counselor and apply for Boys State. Apply to AFA SLS, application process closes at the end of Jan. DD attended SLS last year, was luke warm prior to the week, committed to getting an appointment after.
Locate your ALO and get to know him or her, they are a great information resource as well as connect you with local alumni who can also provide a perspective on the academy experience and the life of an AF officer. Good luck.

P.S. Stats look very good, get started on the SAT/ACT. 30% of your overall score is going depend on those scores.

You have good general stats, all you really need is to take the SAT and ACT + to knock the score out of the water. Good luck.

Thank you

Thank you everybody for your feedback. I'm going to take the ACT this Feb and have been studying for the test. Also I'm going to look into the afa summer program.

I talked with my counselor today and asked about Boys State and he said he would be happy to nominate me but he said he doesn't think the nomination process starts till the spring so I'm gonna contact the head counselor and ask.

So besides ACT, Boys State, and Afa summer program, is there anything else that will prepare me for the afa?

If you are interested in Engineering look up the SAME camp which is on the grounds but not run by USAFA. You will, however, be exposed to many other USAFA hopefuls (my DS made a lot of friends there who are C4Cs with him now) and the groups are led by cadets who can give a lot of insight to USAFA. Besides, who doesn't want to spend a week at USAFA not getting yelled at!

This sounds like a good program since I do plan on going for Engineering. Also my main issue is with the summer seminar, and the SAME camp is getting to Colorado. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska and I don't think flying there would be affordable and I'm not really sure if my parents are cool with me driving myself. Do you have any advice?

My son did the SAME Camp in 2010. You get sponsored by a SAME post and they pay for your airfare and 1/2 of the registration. For more info check out: http://samecamps.org/. If you can't get a local post to sponsor you, contact the registrar and she will work hard to find one for you. Apply anyway. You can always turn it down later.
