Another football scandal.

One of the USMA 1951 "Disenrollees"

In 1951, I was a student and member of the University of Michigan AFROTC. The Cadet Wing Colonel was a dis-enrolled West Point football player who had transferred to Michigan following the football cheating scandal at the military academy. He had been expelled along with Army Coach Earl (Red) Blaik's son and a number of others.
The cadet in question was an exemplar to all the other cadets, and he went on to fly after his graduation and commissioning.
The point, as it occurs to me, is the fact that the Honor Code was not applicable in his assessment at Michigan and it now occurs to me as to how significant the Honor Code is at the service academies. My example demonstrates that you can succeed without it --- but not at those service academies where it applies. You violate it, you will be expelled, and all the cadets/mids know this! I strongly endorse their policy.

And I thought I was old. Did Orville happen to give you any pointers on flying machines?

Orville Wright

Told me not to listen to Wilbur about flying machines or I'd get myself killed. In truth, I wouldn't speak or listen to either one of them: I think they were both Ohio State Buckeye trash.

They were from Ohio, but neither brother graduated from high school. Imagine what they could have made of themselves if only they'd gone to Michigan and played football!

That's Ohio for you. Busy inventing the airplane and birthing astronauts and Presidents, cultivating champions, and reinventing cardiac care.

Meanwhile Michigan gave us the Ford Pinto.

The only thing Ohio is good at is producing humans who will one day move away from Ohio because it's Ohio and that's all there is to do.

That would be witty if it didn't apply to about 40 out of the 50 states.

The only thing Ohio is good at is changing the world. Michigan is like Ohio's tapeworm. Whenever they need something, they have to take it from Ohio.

Ever watch Robin Meade on HLN? You're welcome, America. :thumb:

No, I don't watch HLN, but I'd watch Robin Meade with the volume down. Scout you live in a state people move to though. I miss TN.... fun Nashville.

Truthfully, Ohio is only good at getting in your way as you drive to another state.

Scout, as a Cincinnati native, I appreciate your support of my beloved state. :thumb:

People only move here to become stars. They then fail and move away again. That's why every flight into and out of Nashville has at least 15 guitars. The luggage of broken dreams.

Nashville is fun for awhile, like any party town.

Give it another 15 years, and don't hang out downtown, you'll realize transplants like my family don't stay for the "party atmosphere". It's the low taxes and job opportunities. Those are things that are important to people not enjoying BAH and a "pick your legal residence" option of the military.

No income tax is nice. 9.75% sales tax is not so nice. The job situation is great if you're in the right field.

9.75% helps you folks in that part of the state subsidize the Titans. Unfortunately, none of the AF football players (even the one who started as the subject of this thread) will play for them.
