Another NASS Packing Question

khakis huh?

i have a question about shoes.. do you wear running shoes the ENTIRE time? i personally HATE mine except to run in.. but i think that wearing flip-flops is waayyyy out of the question.

uughhh i hate packing.

Perhaps bring a pair of street shoes such Chucks, Pumas, etc. that you're comfortable walking around in?

my mom got a travel size bottle of tylenol, is this ok to bring or better left at home?

yeah i was just wondering if they didnt want any OVC meds there at all.

hey im going to Session 2. are we supposed to bring cell phones, ipods, laptops...etc...or should I not even bother and leave it all home.

I'd bring your cell phone at least. And I'm bringing my ipod for the plane. I don't think the laptop is necessary. I doubt we're going to have much time to use any of it anyway.

If I bring swim shorts to wear over my bathing suit, will I be allowed to use them for the swimming evolution?

You likely won't have any internet access in Bancroft Hall so leave the laptop at home.

I just got back from Summer Seminar. GO ECHO! HOORAH!

Basically: They give you three pairs of PT shorts, five different colored shirts (which will be considered your uniform), a baseball cap, sweatshirt, sweatpants, and a mesh PT shirt.

We were able to wear jeans and flip flops for the workshops - I would bring some khakis. It was HOT and HUMID. I have never sweat so much in my life. You will want some sort of pain killer - the CFA and PRT killed my knees.

You will want a pillow and maybe some sort of blanket. You are just given a bed, nothing else.

I didn't really wear any of the shirts I brought. I wore my vans quite often... only wore tennis shoes for PT, sea trials, and drill. You want them to be comfortable, you walk around A LOT. and you will want to bring two or three towels. Many people showered 3 or 4 times a day.

Uhmm.... Maybe a belt if you plan on wearing jeans or shorts - you ALWAYS have your shirt tucked in, it is apart of the uniform.

Extra socks!!!! I used all mine and I took ten, maybe twelve.

Good luck and have fun. I would do anything to go again!

My son just got back as well. (Go Charlie according to him! ). I'll also just add that he had about 14 pairs of socks and said it wasn't enough. A couple of them went directly into the trash at home, so it they may not all need to be the high quality, wicking kind - especially for Sea Trials day. However, he brought the recommended 12 pairs of underwear and really only wore a pair a day.

He also complained about the "tucking the shirt in" thing! He said he wore his khaki shorts once and his "dress clothes" (polo/khaki pants) only on the plane there. I gave him a blanket and he never unrolled it - said it was SO hot that he didn't even use the sheet and slept in shorts because he was afraid he'd get in trouble if he wore less!

His knee was fine, but he said the "squad pushups" pulled something in his back and the last day he took several Aleve as well.

Oh, and undershirts. I'd only packed one (wasn't on the list) and he said he wished he'd had more. And his stuff from Sea Trials wasn't that bad. Sure it smelled funky (and as I said, some of the socks were bad), but after washing everything came out fine. I even tossed his shoes that he wore (and said were unsalvageable) in the wash and they're fine now too.

He had a great time as well it sounds like (only spoke to him briefly last night before he crashed, and of course he's still asleep!). And he does get to do it again - in less than 24 hours at West Point! And then the next week at Air Force!

It more depends on the comany you are in and who is your plantoon/squad leader. Some of the kids had to wear their PT shorts for the workshops - I was able to dress in my own shorts and jeans. I think it all just depends on who is your leader.
