Any letters received for Marine Option?

Son received a phone call tonight from his recruiter that he received 4 year scholarship with top school choice likely. He applied late 1/15/10 so I am guessing that his information was reviewed on the late Jan. board. His status has not changed on the NROTC web site. From what I am reading on these forums there doesn't seem to be much continuity in the notification process. I feel bad posting this because my son is a USNA candidate that is still waiting. Everytime someone posts that their status changes to "offer extended" or gets a call from their MOC it makes me crazy. Best wishes to all of you waiting. Hang in there!

My final note for today.. Congrats however, do not be overlly concerned with the status on the page. I recieved my acceptance letter in mid January for the 4 year marine option scholarship and my status still says it is at the board waiting for my officer interview to be processed. You will not recieve a letter though at the same time as the Feb 26th board just because thats how they file their paperwork. They do not release anything until all the dots and t's are present. Good luck again and keep setting the bar high!

Hi educateme,

Unfortunately I didn't see your message for a couple of weeks. I PM'd you back last week - hope it helps!

I just received my acceptance letter for my M.O. Scholarship today :) (2/22/10) and was called by my XO all the way back on Christmas Eve. I was in the DEP so that helps a lot towards the Scholarship because it shows overall that you want to be a Marine first and foremost. The letter was sent out on January 29th so the letters are really slow coming. The big sign for me was that The Citadel accepted me in December and when I got my Scholarship letter, turns out it’s for The Citadel. I noticed that’s a big trend...that the schools find out before the candidate. But remember not in all cases, you could be accepted to the school and not have the Scholarship. Good Luck to the rest of the applicants and remember it’s an extremely competitive year for scholarships.

I did not receive a letter, but I received a call from the XO saying that I got it tonight. I was very happy and congratulations to all who received one.

Do most people get their #1 choice of school?

Last Board

It is my understanding that the last Board has met for NROTC/Marine Option scholarships. Does anyone know if that is correct and has anyone heard anything?

Last Marine Option Bd for 2010

We were told the last Marine Corps Option NROTC Board met on Feb. 26. Haven't heard anything yet, and judging by the length of time it took to get notice out after the Nov. board, there might just be a couple of lucky High School graduates who will still be waiting for word....

...and the wait rolls on.....

guestimate

I would guess that there will be 325 selectees plus the number from the first round who declined their selection.

At one point, someone listed a telephone number for Quantico where you could call and find out the status of the application. Does anyone have that number?

Thanks!

We were in this situation last spring, and know how difficult the wait is. My son's application was reviewed by the February 2009 board. In late March, I contacted the captain in charge of the NROTC unit at the school where he'd already been accepted, to find out if he had any inside information. I went back through my saved emails and found this reply from him, dated 3/22/09, which may help all who are still waiting:

"The Marines and Navy are still working on the final selections for scholarships. In fact, Navy has one more board in early April for the final selections. The Marine districts are making their selections and forwarding them to Pensacola for assignments to schools."

My son was notified on 3/23/09 of his scholarship award. Paperwork came through about 2 weeks later. There is still plenty of time to hear good news, and I wish everyone on this forum the best of luck!

Frost-call Notice FY2010 - USMC - 560 Scholarships

The first board finishes December 1 and is called "the early board". The regular board finishes by March 1.

USMC was allocated 560 scholarships - Eastern region has 274 and 286 go to the Western region.

My son's 1st District in the NE and covers 8 areas. If there are 3 Districts per "Region" each District in the East has 91 scholarships to award; the west gets 95 per district. My Son's unit in NJ (one of 8) gets 11 scholarships to award.

Last November '09 there were about 24 kids in the poolie group. Several of those kids were part of the "early board" - 2 scholarships were awarded. The unit told me around 3/5 that there were 20 kids waiting to hear, but that 9 scholarships have been decided upon. Notification is imminent.

Still waiting here also. Really would like to hear something since I need to send in my acceptance/declination for an AROTC scholarship by tomorrow.

if like NROTC, accept there is no obligation should you decided to pursue a different path in the fall. Accept AROTC and move forward.

My son found out today he was admitted to the school that was his first choice but still no word from the last board.....
