Any letters received for Marine Option?

I just found out yesterday I got the scholarship now I'm just waiting to see which school it is to. Anyone get it to Norwich? That was my top choice

Congrats to everyone who has received a scholarship!

I received one last year and am a 4/C MIDN.

I am writing to share something very important: if you have received a scholarship I would take it to the school that they assign you to! In my unit 12 4/C MIDN came in with scholarships assigned to tech, and 3 or 4 who were wait listed. These who were wait listed have since "lost their scholarships". They were told that there scholarships would be transferred but the wait list never went through even though it had been almost guaranteed. I'm not saying this will be the case for this upcoming year, but definitely a possibility. I couldn't think of anything worse than earning a scholarship but taking it to a different college then it was assigned and losing it because of doing so.

Just looking out for yall, good luck

midnajg, since you said you received a scholarship last year how long did it take to be officially notified? Like the big packet in the mail. I've received a package from my college saying congrats on receiving a scholarship to our school so I just didn't know how long it takes for the official stuff.

Here's what my timeline looked like:

Spring Junior Year: Started Online Application
Fall Senior Year: Finished Interviews / PFT / All Paperwork
Late December Senior Year: Call from OSO in Columbia, SC and at same time status on web page was updated
Jan/Feb Senior Year: Packet came with my official scholarship and school assignment
Feb/Mar Senior Year: Dodmerb Paperwork and Packets
April Senior Year: Dodmerb completed

I made the early board decision; however a friend from my school received the late board and I don't think he received his packet until sometime in April

Thank you it is always helpful hearing someone who has gone through it before, I probably won't get my official packet til next month then. And Dodmerb isn't a problem since I qualified for USMMA already

My son found out today he was not chosen for an NROTC scholarship...sad day here but best of luck to everyone else.

notfinishedyet, So sorry that things did not turn out as you had hoped, best of luck in whatever path is chosen.

I am sorry notfinishedyet. All of these young people, your son included, that have made it this far are truely great kids with a very bright future ahead of them. Hoping that he will see through the initial disapointment and move forward on another path to achieve his goal.

Thanks Gaswimmom and Mudvillemom...I really appreciate you thoughts. Good luck to your sons and/or daughters!

Well..just got the bad news..no scholarship for my son!!! Very disappointed but not the end of the world. Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting!

Sorry to hear about your news, Navybrat12. We got the bad news last Friday via email. Is your son going to pursue a NROTC scholarship from the school he will be attending? I have read that some schools will award scholarships at the end of the freshman year if grades and performance in the NROTC program are high enough. Is anyone familar with this program?

Yes..he still plans to attend Texas A&M and be a part of the Corps of Cadets and he will reapply for the scholarship next year.

Yes they will notify you even if you don't receive one.

I am new to this Forum and have been reading the postings for a few weeks. Lots of good information. About a month ago my son received a verbal award from the Capt in our recruiting office that he received Marine Option NROTC scholarship. We have not received anything in the mail and his status on the NROTC application site still reads that his application is at the board. Has anyone from the last MC board received anything in the mail regarding unit assignment or further instructions?

I received news on being awarded the scholarship from the recruiter first as well and then I got mail from the school I got the scholarship to before the official packet arrived which was about 2 weeks after I first heard I got it. Hope this helped.

Thanks Clive. Did you receive your award from the most recent board or the early board? And, when you received your scholarship letter from your school did it read "NROTC scholarship"? Thanks for your help. We are wondering why it is taking so long for us to hear what school his scholarship is awarded to.
