DS is trying to set up some internships this summer but is wondering if MSII's ( summer between MSII and MSIII) will have a training commitment. No info from his cadre so far. Thanks for any news you have to share.

Unless they plan to send the MS2's to CIET there would be no other training unless he requested a slot for Airborne, Air Assault, CULP, ect. If they do offer him Airborne, Air Assault ect, he would be able to decline the offer. There were a couple cadets in my son's battalion that declined these schools so they could take internships, they were already planning on going Guard so they didn't need the bump the schools would give them for Active Duty. The internships were with companies they hoped to work for after graduation.

My MS2 (AROTC) just today mentioned a 5 week summer 'camp.' No details on where or when. No word on the CULP program.
Interestingly, he said a lot of cadets were 'quitting' AROTC owing to the summer thing. I was really startled! I guess they joined the Army until they were required to do Army 'stuff.' Oh well, probably better off without them. Or maybe it was all just talk.

DS said his battalion only received 1 slot for Airborn this year. Not sure he is interested in the AB,AA, type schools. Sending all MSI's and MSII's to a newly created school all in one summer sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen. The MSII's may not get the LDAC/CIET type trainging before commissioning... Should be interesting.

As usual the Cadet Command website is terrible about updated information.

My DS had 'put in' for the airborne/air assault schools, but learned there were very few slots, and they were basically handed out per the OML. His GPA as of the end of his 1st year was not the best, and I gather it is that GPA (not this winter's) that they use. So, he expects nothing. I wanted him to apply anyway. Things happen, slots open up.
I read somewhere (probably here) that CULP was maybe going to be discontinued or scaled back... thus the delay in hearing about those assignments.
I'll know more when he asks me to take him to the airport a couple of days before the departure date.

A train wreck might just end up being an understatement.

MS3's will still be going to CLC (The replacement for LDAC) the summer between their junior and senior year, any training they go to this summer should not effect CLC.

Sounds like it's going to be hard to make any plans this summer for a while until things get sorted out. All the new training sessions and budget issues that are included must have CC's head's spinning trying to get everything approved from the next level command.

DS will be in China all summer at an internship so if it turns out there's some sort of training happening this year, the commitments have already been set.
