Any one know of a base in Florida with a Farnsworth Lantern Test?

The only one I know of, and found on the web is Pensicola,...that's 8 hours away from my house...last resort but we will if we have to. So far, with limited phone calls, (it is Saturday :) ) I can't find out if Mayport of NAS Jax has one and they are about 4 hours away. The nearest military base in my area is Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach, Florida, about an hour and a half north of us. A good friend living in that area told me they might not have a Farnsworth Lantern because the AF doesn't use it. He's not sure and only lives in that area and was an AF pilot years ago so, not a definitive answer.

I'm looking for anything closer than 8 hours away.

JAX should have one as they have a fairly robust ophthalmology/optometry department. Give a call around, there should be one closer than Pensacola, but sometimes I'm even surprised at what equipment is/is not at a particular place.

Thanks, I'm calling there Monday morning. Key West is about 8 hours away also. I think they've down sized considerable but, that would be a great Friday appointment and a weekend in the Key's for us :thumb:

I just got off the phone with Larry Mullen (the guy is a machine!) and he said my son's letter should be here today (Sat) or Monday.

Key West is basically a glorified family practice clinic now, but it would definately be a nice weekend if they have one. I had a good time down there for sure. I think you're on the right track, let us know where you find one so we can have that information to pass on to other people in the future.

Thanks all and I will keep everyone posted. Looks like Monday will be the big day!

BTW, here is our last visit to Mayport so I suspect our next will be just as good!

What the heck, here he is next to his Squad leader (on right) at NASS

Thanks Larry.

BTW, I found one! NAS JAX!
Was told to just show up with the letter and it's a ten minute test.

And...U now have the letter. Thx for letting us assist you:thumb:

Your help couldn't have been more professional!
Thank you again.

I'll keep you posted.

It's what we aim to do at DoDMERB. Hopefully the keeping me posted will have a positive result in the end. I totally understand and appreciate your concerns for your son:thumb:

Larry, the letter was received here this morning and was postmarked 24 July. I guess it just takes a long time to get here from CO.

I'm just about to call Concord to set up the test in NAS JAX

Maximus - Call JAX NAS directly. Concorde has nothing to do with military facilities

I hate to bring up an old thread, but does anyone know the phone number to ask about a FALANT test at JAX NAS?

Read your other post today, Capt MJ responded with the USCGA Standards, and DoDMERB normally administers medical and optometry exams. I think unless you have been DQ'd by DoDMERB you are putting the carriage before the horse. Also, remember the above posts are pretty old, not even sure the CGA accepts the Lantern test anymore. You should probably call your AO and ask before setting out on a voyage that may not help. Also, it is rare to be able to go to a DoD clinic not being on AD, or carrying a Military ID Card. Can't just walk on and ask to be examined.

Even overseas applicants who have to use DoD facilities, usually need an appointment and notification from DoDMERB to the Base Clinic that you are authorized to enter and get the test.

Just spoke to my FAA Doctor for my son's friend during my physical yesterday. Seems these machines are going away eventually. Amazed at how color blindness is so male dominated. My doctor is in North Phoenix and is one of the few with it.
