I was just wondering if anyone who has already gone to orientation could give us some more insight into what you learned and what you did that wasn't included in the booklet? I am going out for orientation on the 20-21st and is there anything I need to bring that wasn't on the list, like gym shorts or fitness clothes? I didn't know if you got to do anything like that or not.

Bring gym shorts and a shirt just in case.

Get ready for endless Powerpoints the first day. You'll get plenty of info.

It all depends on what the cadets you stay with are like, and you can always just walk out if you don't like it. Packer is right, first day is long and tedious, second day- all depends. But yea, they don't take your attendance or plan anything important for the second day. So if you need to leave or whatever it's fine. I had to leave early (also got my boots early- around 07:45) and my cadet was kind enough to walk me to the chapel and catch the taxi (after his second class). Not really sure I would've wanted to stay longer anyway, I felt like I was intruding and they must've felt awkward as if they absolutely had to entertain me. Either way, I got most/all of my questions answered by the end of the first day.

My son and husband went to the first orientation and they both got a great deal out of the experience. Starting off Sunday with the appointee dinner was an excellent idea and definitely broke the ice. The first day had many speakers, and the majority of them they both thought were excellent. That night, my son was able to experience not only the dorm life (mostly watching people study!) but also try out the food. My son said the fourth year cadets were a bit taxed out by the workload, but he needs to know that. The second day for my son was VERY helpful as he got to see first hand the academic side of the Academy. Both he and my husband are still coming up with interesting information they picked up. My husband says the Academy is VERY IMPRESSIVE and he isn't easily impressed. He also says he knows where all of his tax money has gone. Very worthwhile for them both to have attended the orientation. I'm just sorry I couldn't make it.

Don't worry about intruding. Most escorts are volunteers. (Just try not to interrupt too often if they're studying for a GR or working on a paper due the next day, lol.)

i know a lot of appointees at night in my squadron huddled in one room together to chat and hang out. that way if there escorts had hw to do, they could get it done without being bothered, but then the appointee wasn't bored out of his mind either

I was told that some got "volunteered" because they didn't have enough to escort.

eagle, where you put in that room to watch V for Vendetta also?

no, i'm a 2 dig. i just was coming back from working on a project and passed by a room filled with appointees hanging out. i also know i did that at my orientation (we played poker), and last year i was hanging with a friend whose room became the "appointee hangout room"

I'll be going to the 20-21st orientation too! I'm really pumped and perhaps a little apprehensive. I did an "orientation" last year, but I wasn't even a candidate then. I am excited to see the Academy and to know that I am going there!

Haha sorry, yeah that may have been us. We sat there watching a movie while our cadets studied.

just wanna say that i cannot wait. this will be awesome
