Hey Im an Airman wondering if there are any candidates waiting on a slot. I also want to know those who have already received notice. Im still waiting myself. Cant wait!!!

Already received notice back in January. I will be attending the prep school.

Yeah I am still waiting too! I have talked to alot of priors and they are in the same boat. This waiting is killing me. I am Joshua Vermeylen at Grand Forks AFB so hit me up if you have any questions or just to let me know when you find out. Global works best for me. In case you didnt know commanders will find out first then us, I found that out so checking my online status and the mail is a waste of time. Anyway let me know if you find out anymore information.

johnd90 was told told that he would hear between mid april and mid may. Just a heads up to those waiting. That gives you a time frame to look at.

Does anyone know if it's true that priors have to use leave to take Xmas break etc in prep school?

Yes it is true, but you accrue leave while you are there. The only issue you would really have is that you need to also take leave for the five weeks between prep school and BCT your freshman year. If you don't have the leave balance for that, you just don't get paid for those days. Not a huge killer. Have some money saved at the end of prep school, so when you go home for those 5 weeks, you're not broke! =D

This is last years instructions to incoming preppies. It also has the special instructions for enlisted inside.

Good to see more priors on this forum. I don't know how quick Ill find out. Im a reservist and my commander is a full-time civilian down at finance. Hopefully he notifies me in a timely manner, although it took him a pretty long time to sign my AF1786. But my name is (edited at poster's request), look up my name in global for Pope AAF (used to be AFB, I dont know if it's changed). How did you guys find out about LEAD?

Hey gais. :D I found out about LEAD just through the internet mostly and talking with some people/doing research in tech school. Finally applied at first dutie station.

I have talked to admissions and they have told me that the Airman Board begins to meet starting Monday and from Monday until 15 May they will send out appointments for us. :D So anxious to hear back! Good luck to all of us! It'll be great if we all are at the prep school together.:thumb:

I found out about LEAD through my research. I was trying to get into the academy after high school, but wasn't competitive enough. So, I started going to college and ended up losing my financing for school. (mom was laid off) I decided to enlist, and while researching commission opportunities, I discovered LEAD! My cousin also told me about knowing some priors when he went through.

Well Im glad to see you hopped back on the academy idea. I found out online as well after my brother went to West Point and told me about the unfilled slots. There doesn't seem to be alot of literature online though about detailed stuff, like that fact that pretty much all priors are shoved into the prep school. What job did you go into?

Just talking

From what I have gathered there isnt much information for us Airman out there beside the internet. My education office was no help. Plus all the officers I talked too were telling me I should choose a different, easier program to become an officer..........dude I am up for a challenge. Good for all of you to go for it. Hey worst thing they can tell me is no. A lot of priors go to Prep and very rarely do they go directly to the Academy from my research which does not mean its not possible. What I have learned from the military so far is they can do whatever they want to benefit the military. Anyone have any questions let me know. By the way Got BTZ Hells YES!!

I read that same thing. They'll only direct entry priors if they're right on the edge of that age limit (22 i believe). I'm up for the challenge too. It took my MPF 3 WEEKS to just find out where to send the application. I really hope the hard work pays off.

I babied my MPF. I told them what code to type in and then once they signed off on my 1786, I sent t off myself. =P

Anyway, I am currently a 3D132, Cyber Transports Systems Apprentice. Essentially, I work on anything from telephones, to the computer network, to long haul communications between bases. =P

How about you all? What are y'all's career fields? What career you interested in going on the O side?

Im an Aircraft Electro-Environmental Systems technician. I pretty much fix and troubleshoot any electrical or AC problem on C-130s. I hope to fly planes or become an STO.

Hey guys,

Nice to see a lot of enlisted airmen here.

I'm a Bioenvironmental Engineering tech here at Cannon AFB. Still waiting too. I guess my case is harder because all I can hope for is a medical waiver for my vision. Not really going to a flying job so hopefully they'll consider. I'm planning to major in civil engineering.

I hoping to major in Computer Engineering myself. I am looking at getting into Developmental Engineer as my career field. I have to learn more about the career field before I'm 100% certain on that.

Back-up plan - pilot
second back up - comm officer

I love how when reading this I have absolutely no idea what it means >< hahahaha (hs student here)

hope you guys make it in :p

Hey guys glad to see so many priors waiting for appointments. I've been extremely anxious about it as well. Good to know that the board meets on Monday. I'm stationed out a Ramstein and I know a girl who received her nomination to the p school during the LEAD seminar. I had a chance to go out there in Jan and shadow some cadets as well. The freshman year is going to be rough, like phase 1 for ten months.

I'm a 1N0 intelligence operations, pretty fun job and will definitely give me advantage if I end up in pilot school. My job is to brief pilots and CCs on threats to our aircraft.

I have a few prior friends out at the P school now and they were saying that there is talk about the priors arriving earlier and we get to help run the basic. Can you imagine if we all get appointed to the USAFA we'll have gone through 3 basics, not looking forward to that. But it will all be worth it in the long run, why are most of you guys trying to commission?

Landry you were at the LEAD DVP in January? Walsh and I were as well.

I'm a 3D0X1 guys. Knowledge Operations. I'm your orderly room/css/deployment manager/functional area records manager/whatever else they make me do. XD

I think i've done all the digging that can possibly be done. If you guys have any questions on anything prior enlisted related to the academy, i can most likely answer it.

I love this :D Can't wait to see all of you guys in July. Hopefully......Haha.

P.S. Freshman Year won't be terrible! I'm sure it'll be fun. PLUS Prep School year is like the best year from all the people i've heard from. :thumb:

FWIW, Dolittle Hall has plaques on the wall naming the former enlisted personnel who graduated from AFA. I hope your names make the wall.
