Any Prior-Enlisted Hopefuls?

The ultimate goal is the college degree and the commission in the Air Force. If you go the AFROTC along with college route, you could still get that even if USAFA doesn't accept you. If you get into the enlisted force and can't get your commander to sign off for you, you are stuck.

Another option would be to enlist in the Air Force Reserves or Air National Guard. If you did that, you would get school paid for through enlisted benefits, along side being able to apply for USAFA through the LEAD program. If you don't make it in to USAFA, your education is still being paid for. I'm not sure if you can do ROTC alongside being enlisted, probably not. However, you can always apply for an OTC/OCS in the branch of your choice after completing your education.

Best of luck and best wishes!

Did anyone else get an email from USAFA today asking for their commander's info?

Now I am anxious. We had a base wide excercise today so I wasn't able to get on my email. My email is going to be the first thing I check in the morning.

So, it looks like the gears are starting to turn!

Was yours from Lt Castravet? I was e-mailing her the other day and she asked for that info than. But she sent me the same e-mail you just posted yesterday. Can't wait to find outttt.

Sorry to double post, but this was posted on the admissions facebook page earlier this morning:

US Air Force Academy (Admissions) ‎@ Airmen: Boards are meeting next week for airmen. Some commanders have been contacted already for direct entry. After commanders are notified we at the office will call also

Sorry to double post, but this was posted on the admissions facebook page earlier this morning:

Thats cool, I will have to ask Cooner if he's heard anything yet. He's trying to do direct entry because of his age.

Your Status: Candidate*
Appointment Status: Appointment Offered

Congratulations!! Man I hope I hear something soon because I am really losing hope here!!

Thanks man... but...

I have no idea if I'm direct entry or prep school.

Just a guess...but "Appointment Offered" sure sounds like the USAFA and not the prep school. Good Luck! :thumb:

Thanks, I guess I just assumed I'd be heading to prep school since I'm a prior.

Congrats man! I'm envious. :thumb: Sounds like direct entry to me as well. You almost 23? Also what are your SAT/ACTs, high school GPA/etc?

Thanks guys, I hope to eventually see all of you there. My birthday is January 12 1990, making me 21.

Stats:

GPA: 3.48

Test Scores: SAT Verbal/Critical Reading: 720
SAT Math: 600
SAT Writing: 630

They must put alot of weight on scores for Priors, as my extra-curriculars/leadership activities weren't very strong.

They gather that you have had leadership and other extra-curricular experience from your military career thus far. You have also experienced life in the military, which is something that applicants right out of high school don't have. They may have family in the military, but they don't do the daily grind. They look at you as someone who can lend a helping hand to the people who will be away from home for their first time ever.

Also, from what I gather, there are a lot of enlisted folks signing up this year. There were some prior enlisted cadets who went around to tech schools and other bases to share information about the LEAD program. This is the first year they have done that, and it is the first year they ran the LEAD DVP bringing enlisted folks over to the Academy. It appears that they are really pushing the LEAD program, and I think they are really trying to fill all the slots this year.

So I am currently 21, born July 29 1989, so July this year I will be 22. So do I have a better chance of getting direct entry?

Cool thanks for the info. Hopefully this week we will here something.
