Any questions?

Would i be able to box all year? or is it a seasonal thing. And is it possible to box and join the crew team?

What exactly do the Plebe Year swim tests consist of?

Bandad is pretty close. Plebe swim consists of a validation test on the first day, 5 meter jump and 200 meter swim in 2:30 or less. Swim class, if you do not validate, I didn't and most don't, consists of a breaststroke test, backstroke test, 5 meter jump, 15 meter underwater swim, and the 200 meter swim test. For the 200m swim, the last test of the year...which I just took today actually, you must swim it in at most 5:12(D-)...5:13 (F) is a fail. But no worries, you seriously have plenty of time to worry about this later.

There is boxing over the summer if you wish to validate the class. There is Boxing as a club sport I believe and Crew is Varsity. It is doable to be a multi sport athlete so Crew and Boxing is possible just difficult since you will have many other time commitments.

Well, I definitely intend on joining the boxing club. I've been doing muay thai (which is slightly like boxing..) but should I bring my gloves to summer? or will they be provided. I think i read somewhere that we can bring our own sports equipment? (like tennis rackets for example). And thanks for answering these questions :thumb:

As hard academically as Plebe year might have been, will classes get harder or is Plebe year the worst?

Its no problem at all. I'm assuming you're coming this summer? Yes you can bring your own sports equipment. You should be able to tell them its for sport and it will be allowed during the sorting process.

Sorry, but that one I cannot answer. I'm still a plebe so I wouldn't know about next year's courses yet. I hear they become academically tougher, but most peoples grades improve since they have more time to devote towards academics. Once again, I'm not actually sure.

Thanks for the clarification redsky. DS swam whatever time was required for an 80% in the 200 metre swim. Maybe that is the 2:30 time IDK. He had to swim at 80% or better to validate and he was right at 80%.

Thx again for taking time as you are able on this thread.

I have read everywhere that training in running is important for plebe summer. I have been following the fitness schedule USNA gave me as is required for running. I am wondering about location. For plebe summer, and the PRT for that matter, are the miles run on a 400m track or on a designated 3 mile path?

swimming

My plebe believes water should be 1.5" thick and frozen while he is on top of it. I did keep explaining that if you join the navy you need to learn to swim. All summer last year he ran, did pushups, sit ups etc but refused the swim lessons his parents 'gently offered'.

As of a few days ago he was passing (but close). It is weird to talk to him about how college is going and he says Calculus is going great but that backstroke is causing me trouble...

Bandad and Banmom's son (along with other co mates) gave up alot of their free time to help him.

So all-in-all, dont worry -you have plenty of time...but if you arent even at all close to the parameters that redskyatnight at night is graciously telling you, try to swim over summer along with the other workouts that usna sends. You dont want to stress about all of the other plebe nonsense and then have to set aside time to learn to swim.

(and yes..... I too found it strange that my landlubber thought the navy was the way to go...)

All of the PRTs and most of your running will be on paved roads. The PRT is roughly one and a half laps around a giant loop.
