Any recent NROTC MO scholarships awarded yet?

Congrats to rocatlin (and your son).

We have the same assumption (same school as where he is now).

I'm under the understanding that the scholarship won't kick in until Fall '15..which is fine. Becuase of that, he won't be eligible for CORTRAMID this year, but my understanding is there is some flexibility (i.e. he could go to to CORTRAMID next year and skip Mountain Leader School). The only "really have to" is OCS in the summer between Jr/Sr year.

rocatlin: That is a great question. I believe if your DS gets selected and effective in the fall 2015 (his sophomore year), he would not attend CORTRAMID this summer but would go to Mountain Warfare School after that school year (summer 2016).

Agree with USMCDad with one comment in particular: the big pass/fail event is OCS. All else is nice to do, great experience but absolutely not necessary on the path to becoming a Marine Officer.

Congrats to everyone getting the scholarship! Got word from my recruiter I received the NROTC Marine Option scholarship as well, around mid-December. Checked the portal today and it changed to let me know I got my scholarship to the University of Michigan, 1st choice.

Stats for future applicants incase they're curious like I was:

-Caucasian (It helps being a minority currently)
-PFT: 280 (100 crunch, 100 run, 80 pullups)
-ACT: 34
-GPA: 3.8
-3 AP courses, 1 Community College course
-Volunteer Hours: ~500
-Eagle Scout
-Sports: Weightlifting, 9-11 JV Football, 10-12 JV Track, 12 JV XC
-9th Grade Band
-Worked at a grocery chain, roughly 9-11 hours per week
-National Honor Society
-In the Delayed Entry Program (I believe this helped greatly, for fitness, leadership opportunities, and to show dedication)
-Visited four universities and visited with all of their NROTC MOIs and toured their facilities

I had a friend apply for the scholarship last year, and had overall great stats and was well rounded, but wasn't accepted. From speaking with several officers, it seems to be that the interview is a pretty big part of the process, and my friend was slightly socially awkward. If possible, try to arrange a mock interview with a local recruiter (mine was more than happy to help me out), and it will help prepare you for the actual interview. They do a great job of making it low-stress, but it was definitely nice having already prepared a bit for the questions.

Congratulations Narwhal!

You may want to reach out to Sampia who has a DS who is a Marine Option at Michigan.

Congratulations to everyone! My DS is indeed with UofM, one of several crosstown MIDN from Eastern Michigan University located about 15 min away. Everything I can gather it appears to be a great program and he loves it. The Capt. is a certified MCMAP instructor so 3 mornings a week, they attend martial art training, though I don't think they can start this until their second year but I could be wrong. They host a Bulldog prep at an army base every year which is quite intense and they also do FEX in December. You will have the opportunity to sign up for the drill team and travel to out-of-state competitions. UofM held its own competition for the first time last year. I think you are going to really enjoy it there. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call up there and speak to someone. They are very approachable. Or I could give you my son's email. Best of luck to you!

Just checked my status and received the Marine Option Scholarship to my number 1, University of Colorado-Boulder!
