Any recent NROTC scholarships?

Hang in there! DS did not get his scholarship notification until March 28th last year (his file was complete by Labor Day.) As far as I am concerned, it's still early!

@navymomwannabe--Thanks for the support. My son realizes he can certainly take part in ROTC--with or without the scholarship--but the $ makes out of state tuition manageable. Best to you DS!!

My son found out today that he was awarded a 4 year NROTC Scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill, his first choice school, as a Tier 2 Major (Chemistry). He has a 3.67/4.82 GPA (with 5 AP courses) and a 34 ACT.

Just got a 4 yr scholarship to CU...and I have NO idea where to go from here! Lol so now I have to research what the heck to do next! I was SO excited though, because now I know that even if some of my other plans don't come through, I can for sure got to college and commission as a military officer! Yay!

Thank you!!! Yes, I did that right away! I am so happy to be able to say I get to go in the military! I accepted the scholarship...assuming more paperwork will be coming my way soon?

Yes, there will be an official letter with instructions as to what you need to do next. Enjoy your weekend!

Congrats...!!

When my son got his notification he took his physical training to another level and he is very happy he did. Increase your run distance, increase your push-ups, and increase your sit-ups, this is a good start.

Paper work: You can go to web site of the unit that you will be associated with and see if they have any postings. Watch for some differences, you will be on the scholarship, others will be coming in as college programmers. The web page may have a section titled "prospective students," this is where you should find the information.

My DS also called the unit, they had his name and briefed him mostly on the latter.

Bailey, my son also received a NROTC scholarship at CU Boulder. But, we still haven't heard from admissions at the actual school. I've heard they have a good battalion there. His first choice is USNA though. So, if all goes as planned, he'll end up in Maryland instead of Colorado. But, it's a good Plan B. He's excited about their Aerospace Engineering program.

My DS received his NROTC scholarship to UCSD (first choice) 1st Tier Engineering last week. He's already accepted his appointment to USNA, but it's nice to have this in the back pocket in the event the bubble wrap doesn't work.

Quick question....did your acceptance notification specifically say the CU Boulder campus? Mine just said CU. I was assuming that means I can choose any of the campuses? I was accepted at UCCS, but neglected to apply to Boulder before the deadline. If I have been accepted to UCCS, can I transfer that acceptance to Boulder? Personally, I would rather go to school in the Springs, because the culture is more military friendly, however, I know the detachment is in Boulder, and that would be a looong drive several times per week! I understand waiting on the SA's, though. Currently, USAFA is plan A, everything else is a backup, though I would be happy to serve in any branch of the military! Hoping for the best, but I want to start preparing in case nothing else comes through.

Also, where did you guys see what major you got accepted for? I looked through my e-mail but didn't see anything about a major....

Bailey, I don't know if I am qualified to answer your question regarding the major. I didn't even read my son's e-mail/mail that said he had the NROTC scholarship. He just told me he was awarded one for CU Boulder -- his top choice. I don't know if the acceptance mentioned the major or not. The only part I'm sure about is that on the actual NROTC application, he had to list several schools (5?) and tell what he wanted to major in at the schools. On that application, he said he wanted to major in Aerospace Engineering at CU Boulder. He has not yet received an acceptance from CU, even though he submitted the application in early December. So, this Plan B is not yet tied up. I am hoping he will be accepted since their acceptance rate is really high (88%). But, I suppose I shouldn't count the chickens before they're hatched.

I don't have a clue about transferring the acceptance from one campus to another. You'll probably have to check with the actual schools about that.

Okay thank you so much for helping answer some of my questions! I love my parents, but they are pretty hands off with this college stuff, and I sometimes get kind of overwhelmed when considering where to go from here and what to do next!

My DD received an NROTC scholarship and it did not mention major but as stated above she had to indicate what major she was planning on selecting at that school during the application process.

Bailey, I wish I could have helped more. I tried to just Google an answer about transferring from one University of Colorado campus to another, but couldn't find a quick and easy answer for you. I'm praying you get appointed to USAFA and don't have to worry about it. But, just in case you don't, you should probably shore up your NROTC plans.

When you completed your NROTC application, you chose several schools that you were interested in. Did you happen to apply for, and be accepted at, any of the other schools on that list? If so, there's information in the ROTC forum on how to check into transferring a scholarship.

I'm a little concerned that CU Boulder may not bend on that January 15th deadline for Freshman applications. I didn't find any indication that there was a common application used by the University of Colorado schools. If they won't, but you have been accepted at any of the other colleges you listed, you may be able to work on transferring the scholarship. Maybe someone who knows more about this can help you with some solid answers. If they can't, I'll try to help you figure it out.

I don't think CU Colorado Springs is considered a "cross-town" university in the NROTC program. It looks like NROTC only has that partnership with CU Denver (but they discourage it). The AFROTC program does have that "cross-town" option with CU Colorado Springs. Did you also apply for the AFROTC program?

You will not be able to transfer the acceptance from UCCS to UC Boulder since they are separate schools with independent admission criteria. My youngest son was denied at UC Boulder but accepted at UCCS. He also applied to Colorado State and was accepted there. He will be attending UCCS as a freshman this Fall.
