Anyone else still waiting out there?

We've heard as well that no news will come until after May 1 when all outstanding offers have been resolved .... were also told to begin moving forward on plan B ..... looks like TWE in the works here.

So, you have those who have known for several months (LOA), those that have known for weeks, and those that won't know for a month or more. Each having a different time periods to get mentally and phyiscally prepared for whats lies ahead. Another example, in my opinion, how the system should change.

hi..I am wait listed for the USNA...GPA 4.2 weighted classes, Varsity Runner, loads of extra cir. activities....So hopeful. Do you think I have a chance?

From what I've being reading it can depend on a number of factors, including where you are on the NWL, how many of the initial appointment offers are turned down, etc. Best of luck!

There are X amount of slots left with X amount of candidates (a number larger than the number of slots) who have been offered an appointment and have yet decided and who have until May 1 to let WP know their decision. Not much WP can do now until they hear from those declining or accepting.

This is really not any different than other colleges. My DD is waitlisted to her dream school and they tell her that she won't know anything until the middle of May at the earliest and possibly may not know until August.

WP's timeline sounds much more humane.

I'm going to move this to the USNA forum where you will get more opinions to your question.

The class has been filled but there are always a few last minute slots due to:
1. Offers being declined. Offers are good until May 1. Some people wait until the last day to decide. If a candidate does not respond by May 1 their offer is immediately revolked.
2. Troubles with police. Parking tickets are normally OK but anything involving drinking or drugs is taboo. Speeding could be a problem - case-by-case basis. Arrests for pranks etc often result in revolking the offer
3. Injuries that can not be resolved by July 2 (R-Day)

The total slots generated at the last minute vary from year to year but probably 10-30 (approximate) will become open. People at the VERY TOP of the NWL will get an offer.

A Regional Admissions Officer told me that he was searching for a candidate the day before R-Day last year to offer him an appointment. He could not locate the candidate so the slot went unfilled. However, making an offer that late is very unusual.

Some of this is not true.

Folks - you are just going to have to wait a little longer. There are no offers going out this week. May 1 is not that far away considering how long you have waited so far. The log jam will move on May 1. Be patient and pursue Plan B.

No disrespected intended, but i totally disagree.....and when you are called off the NWL they will probably give you 24hours to make a decision they have taken 5 months or more making

Still nothing

Still no word for me, a diversity outreach officer that I have been in contact with since December told me to give him a call tomorrow. He claims I am his "number one guy" for civil prep. So hopefully he has some good news. Keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone else hear back about an AOG civil prep scholarship?

I completely respect your opinion. I applaud you for waiting so far out. Many candidates have waited for so long, often time in complete darkness. And I believe I read they gave you two weeks from the offer to decide. Trust me, I was deadset on WP and I still wouldn't make my decision in under 24 hours. WP has over 10,000 applications and 1000 spots to fill. And if there is a spot for you, WP will try to find it.

Now I'm not being bitter at all, but being on the NWL is far better then QNS. If I had even a 0.0001% chance, I would hold on no matter what. I'm on the waitlist for Plan B and I may not hear until June 1, well after the regular deposit fee for colleges.Yes, it would seem that the whole admissions process is difficult and "faulty" to some. Applying as early as Junior year, the CFA, countless interviews, the nom process, NWL, so on.

But in my opinion, I could not be happier with where I am now. And I'm speaking as a candidate who received the TWE. In fact, I was probably the last person that you would think wanted to attend a service academy. On Day 1, NO ONE had my back. But because of WP, I am a stronger person in terms of being well round and I have so much support. In fact, I believe I am the only person in my entire school who had a competitive shot at a service academy. Just for applying to WP, I have done remarkable things. I have become a capable leader. I am a varsity athlete. I'm in the top 15% on my class. I made the decision to serve our country when I was 14. I passed a medical and physical test where many of our students cannot pass. I've been reviewed by military officers and government figures. I was no where near this status four years ago. And this is just because WP inspired me to change my life for the better.

And I am not bragging at all. I think the service academy process is the best in the world and I plan on going through every year until I'm too old. If the system is wrong, then I don't care personally. I'm developping exponentially and I will not be going in next year. Please, if you've waited this long hold on if you can. WP wants you and they're doing everything they can.

Sorry for the long drawn out post. I'm on meds from my Wisdom teeth surgery.

Here's a novel idea! Just an idea - maybe worth some consideration! As a parent of a candidate on the NWL I know what most of you parents and candidates are going through! I'm sure most would agree, even bad news is better than no news. While May 1st is only a short time away, maybe West Point could, in the future, consider reducing the number of candidates on the NWL. As I understand the process, everyone remaining on the NWL only has the opportunity to obtain an appointment if another appointed candidate declines their appointment - or if the candidate falls over to the "dark-side" and that slot opens.

I have read estimates that this occurs approximately 25 - 30 times each year. Why not reduce the NWL to the top 50 candidates? Let each candidate know where they stand - you are NWL candidate #8, you are NWL candidate #47.... This would allow the vast majority of NWL candidates to move on, accept their fate and start preparing for Plan B!

West Point can always reserve the right to contact candidates further down the NWL if the need arises! While my son would gladly accept a late appointment, its not fair to those candidates that realistically have no chance of receiving an appointment - and only West Point knows who those candidates are!

I heard estimates of around 250 (400 in big class years) candidates get selected from the NWL.

25-30, I believe, are "late appointees".

There may be 10,000 applicants, but realistically 8,000 never had much of chance, unless you were an athlete WP needs, attended USMAPS (which is 200 of the 1150 selected), or active duty (who are some of the guys that really belong there).

BTW, not true on 2 weeks from offer to decide. If you are pulled off the NWL after May 1st you probably are given a few days to decide.

I will applaud those who will wait for the word and for you changing your life for WP. Good luck.

Why not reduce the NWL to the top 50 candidates? ...

I thought I had read earlier in the year (around late February and March) that candidates had received letters from the admissions department informing them that they had been qualified but not chosen for a slot this year.

Isn't that the same as reducing the size of the waiting list?

How many are currently active on the waiting list? Does anyone know this number?

same emaill

My son is in his second round of apply was QNS last year wait listed this year. He is in college already doing great loving ROTC . He did receive the same email I think they are letting the people wait listed know it will be a couple of weeks and to accept plan B as some other colleges want answers earlier and they do not want a canadate to give up a spot at another school and not be choosen of the NWL.

I guess my frustration is that we have NEVER got an email or letter...nothing....ever. So is my DS on the wait-list? Is he ahead of those who have been told they are on the wait list? I would have appreciated at least SOME communication. He had his application completed Sept. 1. At any rate, we have waited this long...we will wait a bit longer (while making plan B a reality).

hearing nothing

Boa,
Did your son call his regional admissions person?

Yes, a month ago my DS contacted admissions and they said they were still busy with the selection process...and that is all that they could say except that they were going very slowly, since they were nearing the class size limit.
My DS wrote his RO on Monday to ask where he stands (NWL, etc...) since he has never formally been told, and has not received a response. Oh well, it is out of our hands and I am sure someday we will hear SOMETHING!

BOA,
I know your frustration! Last year we didn't hear anything from anyone! We finally called our RC to get the skinny. He told us that our son's file was being considered for a athletic recruit slot! Good News, right? An hour later we received an email, from someone we never heard of, stating that they were unable to find a slot for my son! He was officially "QNS" at that point! What a ride of emotions in a couple of hours! Thinking that he had a great shot as a recruited athlete, and then getting his legs cut out from beneath him....ouch!

Thats why the NWL should now be cut down to 50 slots. Out of the 50, maybe 25-30 have a shot. Why keep everyone else in limbo when they do not realistically have a shot (this year)!
