Anyone heard from the wait list?

My son is on the wait list. I know the earliest admissions was going to start processing (if there are any slots to process) was May 15th. Has anyone heard? Also, does anyone know how you are informed? From info I've gathered, it sounds like they notify you by mail. We live in an area where the mail takes forever to get here (the wait list letter took 13 days to arrive).
I'm looking for any info anyone may have:
Are there any slots to fill for 2014?
Has anyone from the wait list heard anything yet?
If so, how were you notified?
Is there a way to find out sooner?
Plan B is in effect, but USNA is his first choice if an appointment comes through. The sooner we know, either way, the better for all involved. If anyone has any answers, or knows where I can go to find any, please let me know!

Also waiting here from Southern California! Was told by BGO that USNA should be able to have some results by the end of May. However, BGO didn't know (admissions wouldn't tell him) how many were on the wait list and how many spots were available.

Good luck to all on the waitlist.

Historically, the overwhelming majority hear, one way or the other, by June 1. After that, about the only reason someone would get good news would be an appointee with a late medical disqualification, a serious legal problem, etc. -- we're talking a handful of slots, if that.

Thanks for the info. I know its a long shot. I know he will succeed wherever he goes, but as a mom, I would really like to see him get his first choice. Besides, my brother is a 1985 USNA grad, and trying to picture him saying anything other than "Go Navy!" is just mind boggling! lol

Has anyone heard from USNA about the wait list? Any rejections or appointments? If DS were to receive the TWE, would he have received it by now? At what point will USNA let us know when the wait is completely over?

Good luck to all who are still waiting.

I would have thought you would have heard by now, given that acceptances/rejections were due May 1 for the overwhelming majority of appointees. Not sure what to tell you.

Last year my son was on the wait list. He received a call from our congressman's office on June 10 letting him know he was being offered an appointment and he needed to call USNA admissions. Admissions asked if he would accept the appointment and when he said yes they sent the blue folder and all the paperwork next day by FEDEX. Son did NASS, app was complete in September, nomination in December, triple qualified.
He did contact the regional director (can't remember the correct title) at the Academy weekly once he received the wait list letter just to remind him that USNA was still the top choice. The head master at his school also sent a letter of recommendation in May. He was going forward with his plan B and was getting ready to start the application again.
Don't give up all hope but move forward with your plan B and try again.

DS just called RD and was told that he is still on the wait list. Just wondering if anyone has received any appointments from the wait list for 2014.

Our son is still on the wait list as well (apparently) ....

Murf

From reading all the past years "wait list" threads, (and I do mean all of them) it seems to me like a mass of letters go out May 30th stating that the class is full. Just a handful of names are kept on after that to accommodate any last minute turn downs or disqualifications. Does that sound about right usna1985?

So right now, no news is good news I suppose?

momoffour, thanks for your post, it is good to know someone got in last year at that late a date. It does prolong the torture of holding out hope though. I am very thankful there is a plan B.

If anyone hears from their B&G or regional with any new info, please post it. Our B&G officer emailed today and said there wasn't any news. It seems everything is pretty tight lipped at this point.

Good luck to all who are waiting, and know you're not alone!

Unfortunately, BGOs are as much in the dark as anyone. I have a WL candidate whom I was told in April had a "great shot." He has yet to hear either way. That tells me that USNA will be taking very few off the WL this year.

Please note that the above is ONLY MY OPINION. There has been no official communication to BGOs. However, if I were still on the WL, I'd set my heart on Plan B. If USNA comes through, pop the champagne!

My B&G heard from the regional yesterday. He said they do know the number of individuals that turned down appointments to USNA, however the number is not known to the regionals or B&G's. He also said that the Academic Dean is up at the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) in Newport, Rhode Island reviewing all the records of the individuals in the school trying to gain an appointment to the Academy. Once they decide that number, then they will start taking people off the wait list to fill up the Academy. He doesn't think there will be any "wait list" announcements till next week.

So it looks like one more week of no news. :frown:

At least we can relax on the phone vigil for a week. :thumb:

So does this mean that those on the wait list still may have a chance to go to NAPS? Thanks for the information

Navy616, it means you still have a shot at USNA.

If I'm not mistaken, since our kids are wait listed, it means they are 3Qd, and I think NAPS is for candidates are not quite scholastically qualified. Like I said, I could be wrong.

Hang in there! :thumb:

Waitlist Wait Continues

I spoke with an RD today and the RD "Hopes" to have news to share late Wednesday, 9 June.

Keep the faith.
