A lot of kids dream about USNA, many parents too. Some parents are proud but unsure what the kids are getting into.

After 4 years I am still proud and have come to accept my inability to be more the a support net work. I will be watching the live feed, not aviation, not sub mariner, not EOD, SWO.

All the communities share the proud Navy heritage, but, if you ain't got a boat, you ain't got a navy, SWO!

Here is the link for the live feed for ship selection. I am unaware of any other community that has a comparable ceremony. Please post if there is. I would love to see it. This is as close as I will ever get to seeing the inside .

I agree this is an amazing show and so glad they are broadcasting it. I remember our ship selection night like yesterday. I was there cheering my room mates on. When we service selected we found out in January and then ship selection, flight school dates, TBS dates, etc was 2 nights later. I am glad they service select earlier now and there is a gap between that and ship selection night. Really allows Mids to research options, ask questions and understand what is best for them. I think the Surface community does a great night with this with alot of Senior Officers showing up and even some ship COs coming and handing out hats. For those who service select SWO as their #1 pick, service assignment is sort of anti climatic. For those who wanted others and get SWO, it allows them a chance to get over the disappointment and regroup for the future. Ship selection night is really their night to celebrate and look to the future. Heck these will be the first graduates to hit the fleet in June!

Ship selection was a lot of fun to watch, but I really felt bad for the parents who didn't get to see their mid because they kept cutting away from the selection to do interviews.
