This is great advice since you have to spend four years there anyway.Except for English, son did not use AP grades to skip any classes at USMMA. This was a good decision- built up lots of GPA buffer Plebe and Sophomore year.
One could also make the case that by getting out of classes, the lighter course load will serve the same purpose as facilitating a GPA buffer. Especially while learning to balance academics with the regiment.Don't care. Son did not even turned in exam grades. Except for English, son did not use AP grades to skip any classes at USMMA. This was a good decision- built up lots of GPA buffer Plebe and Sophomore year. Also, allowed learning to balance regiment, sports, and KP craziness without undue academic pressure. Finally, AP classes gave great foundation for the systems engineering curriculum at KP. Many high school require you to take the exam, however, if you took the course.
I had quite a few college credits when I came to KP. I used some for lighter course load, and retook the classes on some for a GPA booster. In hindsight, I think I used the lighter course load more for extra rack time than study time. One could also make the case that by getting out of classes, the lighter course load will serve the same purpose as facilitating a GPA buffer. Do you think they will ask for AP scores?Don't care. Son did not even turned in exam grades. Except for English, son did not use AP grades to skip any classes at USMMA. An endeavor with unappreciated return on the investment if you ask me. A well rested mind is a sponge.I had quite a few college credits when I came to KP. I believe summer school is the only class which replaces the grade without including the extra credit hours of retaking the class. All others, the 0.0 points and the X number of credit hours remain on their record in addition to X points and X credit hours for taking the class a second time. They don't technically "average" your grades but the math in calculating your GPA does average them in practicality.Never asked son for them. USMMA doesn't give credit for AP classes. Also, regarding GPA boost, if you credit out of a class, you do not get any grade at all. If you take it and get A, it helps with GPA. Those carrying one less class didn't always use that extra free time to study their remaining classes. Buffer helped when over half the class failed last year and DS received a C+. How? Those that flunked went to summer school and most then earned an A. USMMA erases the F like it never existed and only A is reflected on record. USMMA does NOT average the two grades. Son still glad to have class behind him and no pressure for sea days and no potential for being delayed grad. Just one of many weird things that only USMMA could dream up and execute.
