I am in high school what AP classes do you recommend me to take. (Note: My goal is NOT to graduate early)

Take whatever you can handle. I took 9 and did fairly well (As and Bs). You should challenge yourself but not get overwhelmed.

So I took a total of 4 and was able to maintain an unweighted 4.0 (thus far). It was enough to get me an appointment! I think they want to see that you are trying hard. Quality over quantity.

Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, English ... to start. What else is offered and what else are you interested in? How much can you handle? History -- US, Euro, Government; Statistics; Biology, Environmental Science. Those are the ones my DS took.

I only took one AP course, but I did a LOT of Dual Enrollment (taking college classes in high school). In my opinion, that is another really good way to get college credit. It's definitely something worth looking into in addition to AP, especially since it's free in many areas.

Good luck to you! :thumb: Work hard and you will succeed. Remember that there are many paths to USAFA, and no one candidate has exactly the same academic experience. Do your best in the hardest courses you can, and it will be worth it when the time comes to apply.

(P.S. Just a suggestion--I would change your username if that is your real name. I have heard that cadre who frequent SAF sometimes find out "a little too much" about cadets who use their real names on this site.)

Lol, sometimes it's hard to believe that they would use that against us though! The cadre on the forum seem so nice and friendly right now. Some sort of switch must flip starting I-Day though......

Oh bailey. Sweet innocent bailey.
It's one HUGE SWITCH! I've said it before ... Hang on! It's a wild ride!

At least that switch goes off after Recognition. :coo2l:

I am a sophomore right now and my situation is rather odd. I had failed Chemistry but somehow they said they would erase it from my transcript so after i retake chem, should i take Ap Bio or Physics? I want to take Ap Bio instead of physics.

You should take Physics (AP, honors or regular). Calc / chem / physics are the more important classes the SAs look at for candidates.

I would say take what you can handle and what you like. Try not to do things "just so you can get into/look good for the USAFA" I've heard it's noticeable. You can load up if that's really want you want, but like bailey, I only took 4 (One Jr yr and 3 this yr) and we will be seeing each other on I-Day. Don't take a bunch and not do well in them because it can be a lot of work and if your grades fall short of Bs, it can harm you.

Ok. Next year for Junior year i will be taking AP US History and AP English as well as regular chemistry. I will also take algebra 2 trig. Should i also continue with a language, is that being looked upon? For Senior year i was thinking about taking AP Literature, Pre-calc, physics and/or AP bio or both. What do you think would best best course of action?

I'm no expert seeing as though I am just an appointee so I won't tell you what you have to take. If you haven't taken a foreign language, or if you haven't taken two years of one I would take it. Not for the sake of the Academy but because almost every college requires 2 years of foreign language. As far as the other classes go, I would see if you could possibly go a little further into your math and try for Ap or regular calculus or stats. For the sciences, just take what you're interested in. I took the required honors bio and honors anat and physio because I had to to graduate but for the other 2 years I took gen chem and ap Chem because I love chem and dislike physics.

I already took the 2 years of language, I just wasn't sure if most candidates continue their language all 4 years. My math is not my forte but I will definitely push for Calc senior year. Chemistry is extremely arduous for me. It feels like i toil aimlessly when i study for chem. Any tips for chem?

Ohhh okay. Well I can't speak for everyone else but I only took 2 years. I would've had 3 credits worth because I took Spanish 1 as an with grader and moved states before 9th grade so the credit was no longer transferable so I only took 2 years. Which really wasn't years, it was Spanish 1 and 2 and each was 18 weeks. Chemistry can be uber hard, I feel like I get it because like 75percent of it is math and I love math. I would just say if you aren't strong in chemistry, take gen Chem and take an AP version of a science you like. Youtube videos help me loads with AP chem, I have missed various lessens being sick but videos helped me get back on track. If you take a science you like, it'll click better.

Thank you so much for your advice! It has helped me for my plan in the future. I wish you the best of luck in your future! I will also look into those youtube videos for chem.
