Applicant for USMA Class of 2018

^starting with MA 100 to catch up on fundamentals in Math before starting with calculus; using STAP if necessary to lighten the academic load during the year; taking the offered study skill and reading comprehension classes at the Center for Enhanced Performance along with available tutoring during the academic year. There are options available to USMA if they choose to employ them for a particular candidate. But this potential applicant appears committed to getting himself prepared and doing what he needs to do to bring up his SAT/ACT scores. If that effort is taken, no matter what happens with his application, he will be better prepared for posts-secondary education.

The general guidance from Admissions on what HS courses to take is:
Take the hardest classes you can take and make an 'A' or 'B' in.

On the advice to take the hardest courses you can, I would echo the prior poster who tells you to talk first to your teachers and counselors to make sure you can handle those courses. (It does not help to take an AP course but get a D in it.)

I'm puzzled....if a student can't handle multiple AP courses in high school and be successful in them, how will he/she manage at WP with the enormous pile of courses that plebes are assigned......in addition to all of their other duties and responsibilities?

I'm sure they can't (at this point) but if someone is not ready for AP courses, the hardest ones they can take and get A's and B's in will make them the most competitive for admission. It will also cement a better foundation for college level academics than struggling through AP courses which move much faster, and once they master the fundamentals, they could then potentially handle the academy experience.

I have a great deal of gratitude towards everyone who gave advice  Thanks for all the advice, I will continue to strive to be my absolute best in everything that I do

I realize I have made major mistakes during my first two years but I fought my inner battales and came out victorious...I am a FIGHTER I will fight for my right to lead the yound men and women of the world's finest army!! That is something I believe that admissions will see

One way or another, I WILL become a officer

I'll post up for any advances within my application including SAT scores

All those sites provided were of great help :thumb:

I just received a email about Peak Performance conducting a CFA on May 5...
BTW if the scores are good they would send them to admissions
My most recent scores (October 2012)

Pushups in 1 min - 35

Pullups - 6

Shuttle Run - 9.3

Basketball throw (never attempted it)

Situps in 1 minute - 50

1 mile run - 6:50

What do I need to improve? I'll greatly appreciate any advice given.

Don't put off practicing the basketball throw, and make sure you are practicing the events in the correct order. Doing push-ups first doesn't give you an accurate picture of what you can do on the CFA.

Update:

I attended the Academy Day event for Rep. Holt of District 12

It was very informative and I got to meet my MALO

Something else to add: I had applied to be a student council officer nxt yearand possibly this summer I could be assigned as a platoon leader in JCLC ranging from 400-600 cadets:thumb:

I will be taking the SAT and the ACT in June so I am pushing myself to the limit using all the available resources that was suggested

What I never realized was how much support I have at my school due to the fact if I get appointed to USMA, I would be the first ever from my school :shake:
