DS completed his USMA Application. He is now Qualified on DoDMERB. All his Nomination Applications are also complete. Now the hard part. WAITING! Any idea(s) what may or may not come next? Any timing(s)?

Congrats on finishing! Must feel great. We are waiting for two teachers to come through on their promises to write recommendations over the summer. Five emails later.... At an impasse and feeling frustrated!

It's an odd feeling. It's now one of "the die is cast" and nothing else you can do. Before, it seemed like there was always something one could be doing to push the ball forward. Now it's the waiting. We can appreciate the frustration of waiting on recommendation letters. Another time when you wish there was more you could do to obtain your outcome.

DS and our family are bracing ourselves for USMA decisions by on or about April 1, 2017. If decisions come out earlier, then great. Otherwise, it's the long haul mentally.

At this point, we just want our DS to enjoy his senior year and keep pinching ourselves because we can't believe that he's almost done with high school. Seems like yesterday, he learned how to talk, walk and be potty-trained...

I would also suggest to work on Plan B and C as you wait. The next big question, what will be the game plan if you don't make it in the first time?

You could always suggest that he take the ACT and/or SAT again, unless he already has perfect scores across the board.

It makes one of the biggest differences in WCS and there are several test dates left that would count before the deadline.

Awesome advice. Son is in the same boat hopefully headed to USMA together. Working the plans B,C, D and retaking the ACT in September for the writing score.

Everyone enjoy their senior year and make some memories! :)

B, C & D are well under way. Wouldn't fly without a net. Excellent advice.

DS took the SAT in December of Junior Year and scored a 2300 with 800 in Math. Also took the ACT in December of Junior Year and scored a 35 Composite with 35 in Math/36 in Science/36 STEM. Then 5 APs his Junior Year (Calc BC, Stats, Physics, US History, English Lang/Comp) with 5's on all 5 exams. Testing is something he can do for some reason. He is focusing on ACT IIs for his backup colleges.

Bingo!!!! This is just what I was going to say. My son also had his application complete, but took the ACT twice after his app was complete, and increased his scores both times, thus boosting his chances at admission. Not certain if he would have gotten the appointment anyway, but with the boosted numbers he got an appointment by mid January, in a reasonably competitive district.

Also, other things can be updated, like being a varsity sport captain, or other officer positions with organizations. And CFA could be improved in some cases too.

The process is never over till the appointment is in hand.

Thank you! Just keep plugging away, keep Plan B's in the process. Make sure DS enjoys his Senior Year and get the maximum amount of fun/enjoyment but also keeping up the hard work.

The only thing I would add is reaching out to a local West Point Liaison Officer. Based on what you posted, your DS should be consider for a LOA. If so, a nice interview with a local liaison officer should help with possibly getting an LOA.

Well here is how it went down for my kid last year. (He had good SAT scores but not as good as your kids and a ton of athletic and leadership stuff. ) He had applied to West Point, USNA and USAFA. About late Sept. or early October he was invited to a very nice dinner by the West Point Dallas area alumni association. We found out that this was for "desirable" candidates. It was very classy and well done. Then we waited and like all applicants were hoping to get a LOA. (didn't happen). In November he got a invitation from the North Texas USNA alumni group to attend their "Blue Chip" dinner. This was also awesome. Got to meet Roger Staubach and Ross Perot. Got nomination just before Christmas. Then from Jan. 17-25 he received offers of appointment from USAFA then USNA then West Point. BAM, BAM. BAM. He was reeling. By the way West Point and Navy actually sent BFE's and West Point's was by far the nicest. Air Force sent an email only. After visits much contemplation and prayer he chose USNA right after spring break. He wanted to release the other two appointments in plenty of time for others to get them. He is now a MIDN 4/C.
