Grabbed this from the Capital News in Annapolis

Applications to the academy are at an all-time high, officials said.

The academy has received 17,416 applications, or 2,100 more than last year, for about 1,100 spots, Dean of Admissions Bruce Latta told the board.

Even Summer Seminar, a weeklong exposure program for high school students, is receiving a lot of attention.

Academy officials said that 2,500 students applied in the first 24 hours of the program's admissions period, and the application deadline isn't for another three weeks. Last year saw 6,500 students apply for 2,250 Summer Seminar openings.

There is nothing really new in these numbers but these are from Academy as the offical source and printed in a Capital news article.

You sure that number is right. I read somewhere else they aim for 1230, but offer 1500 knowing some will deny.

It seems like a common trend during high times of recession. The CGA has had a record number of applicants this year, and very few people will be coming off of West Point's National Waiting List.

Did a cut and paste from the article.

My guess is the 1100 figure is the number of straight in applicants. There are roughly 150 that come in from NAPS. Total would make 1250.
