Hey everyone :)

This is mainly a question for anyone who has already been accepted to West Point but if any of you can help out I would really appreciate it!

So I'm about to send in all of my nomination packets to my two senators and congressman. Should I try and contact each of the offices before hand introducing myself?

Thank you

Hey! I haven't been accepted but I am going through the process of nominations and feel as if I can answer your question. I would say the best bet is try to attend your congressman/woman's or senators Academy Night if they have one! I went to mine's Academy Night and I actually got to talk with him for a few minutes (kind of like a mini interview) and introduced myself, and the press was there so they took pictures and stuff. Academy nights are very helpful and usually helps you get ahead of the curve, in my experience. Hope I helped!

I would highly recommend it. Depending on when he deadline is, I'd also recommend not sending it in too early. Keep it in your back pocket until three or so weeks before the deadline, then send it it. That'll give you plenty of time to update it with your summer activities (you never know what'll happen). At this point last year, I sent emails and/or called each of the nomination coordinators. It wasn't anything crazy, just introduced myself, told them I'd be applying, and asked a few questions. Once you send your application in, be sure to follow up with a call or email and ask if they received it, and if so, if everything was satisfactory. Best of luck!

I echo @nikkip I went to an all Academy event and got some face time, not only with the nomination coordinators but also with the various heads of admission for my region. Every little bit helps!

Mine did not make any initial contacts. He mailed the nomination packets in plenty of time.
