I just received the letter of an offer of appointment to NAPS yesterday and I am greatly excited! But I have some questions on what to do next. I know I have to return the accept/decline form, statement of understanding, and proof of citizenship (1. All can be in the Business Reply Mail right? I ask because the address on it is slightly diff. in the last zipcode numbers on where they want me to send the first two, but the last form says I can include it, I'm overthinking this). And also do the police background check (2. Where can I find out all the jurisdictions that I fall into? Since I know I don't have any record except for a single detention for cell phone use in school, I'm currently thinking that just my county police headquarters should be sufficient enough.)

3. I know I don't need a nomination to enter NAPS, but should I proceed in completing them? (All I have left to send is VP and Presidential, all others are complete)

4. Anything else that I have missed to do?

Thanks for the help, and sorry for asking so many questions, I have always followed the belief that if I'm going to do it right, I should do it right the first time.

P.S, Bonus Misc. Question: Does being pulled over for traffic violation (no ticket recieved) appear on a background check? And how severe would it be?

Congrats and my daughter will be attending Naps as well. We got the letter today!!!

Congratulations!! I will be attending NAPS also in 2010. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Anyone from Ohio???

First, congratulations on your appointment to NAPS.

Second, I noticed you didn't get an answer to any of your questions so I will try to answer the ones that I can.

(1) Follow directions and if it still not clear, call to be sure.

(2) Check with your local police station and they should be able to tell you how to complete a background check.

(3) Yes, continue to complete your nomination applications because, while rare, at the last minute you may be offered an appointment to USNA.

(4) Review the package again to double check that you have completed everything that needs to be completed and/or submitted.

Bonus question: Don't know the answer.

Best of luck to you,

GoNavyMom

3. VP nomination deadline is long gone. I don't know about Presidential though...

Typically unless you are charged with something, it will not show up on your background check. A traffic violation will not show up, unless you were arrested !

Wow when did all of you guys finish your applications?

All of the above. Make copies of everything before you mail it. Congrats!

I got mine yesterday! Dated back December 7. WOOHOO!

Congrats we are so excited for everyone! We have our Midshipman home and my husband is home from combat training before heading to Afghanistan and our newly appointed Napster daughter is on cloud 9....this house is defiantly joyful this year!!!!

Happy Holidays and Congrats to all!

Happy Holidays!

Our son received his appointment to NAPS Saturday! We are very excited! Anyone from NC?

RE: Bonus question

I've worked for a police department and in special education and have had about 5 pre-employment background checks done for (to) me, so I've been on both sides of the fence.
Typically, driving violations do show up if a citation is issued because this goes to the Department of Motor Vehicles so it can be added to your official record. Most employers (I'm not sure about academies) will do a criminal and a motor vehicle background check.

In your case, it sounds like the officer just wanted to give a verbal warning. This may show up if it happened in your home town and the academy checks, but no where else. If you get a written or verbal warning, it remains in the local police department so if you get stopped again, the town officers can decide if they want to give you a ticket this time.

In any case, when an officer tells headquarters "Clear with check" or "Clear with a warning", no one really cares.:shake:

UNLESS, you were stopped by a statie!!

We used to live in NC what part are you in we are military and are now in TX!
We are also military. Well, my husband (active duty) is stationed in Camp LeJeune. Our son and I live in Clayton, NC because I am a Veterinary Student at NC State.
I read your post about your spouse, your mid, and your NAPS daughter. You must be so proud! I haven't stopped smiling!

Thanks everyone for answering my questions, and congrats to all of you who received the appointment as well.
