Appointee Tours

Back in the day, there was Orientation, and for Fencersfamily, it was our first trip to the Rampart Range. Make sure you take some time to see a few sights around town: Garden of the Gods, maybe the Rodeo Hall of Fame if that's your cup of whoop-a$$. :)

Since we had not been there before, it was good that we spent a few days in CO, and could envision the dorms, the campus, the area, for BCT and other times when communication was, um, slower.
Besides I'm guessing it might be a good idea to get a feel for what kind of recreation is available for cadets in the Springs.
Thanks for the tips!

Did todays tour happen? In light of yesterdays tragedy i am not sure what goes on during a campus 'lockdown'.

According to DD, they aren't in lockdown anymore. It's a "blue" weekend, so many of the cadets are off campus.

Tour today was delayed more by a car accident inside the gate than by anything else. Appointees did not get to eat with the cadets, though -- they ate pizzas in another location. It was nice to meet some folks and tour the facilities. Bring a water bottle and be ready for lots of stairs.

Don't worry Rogers, you'll be eating there often enough next year :)
Was it because of the passing of the cadet that the appointees didn't eat in Mitch's or was that just how it was set up originally?

This is just speculation but I assume it was because of the passing of the cadet because we were supposed to eat at mitch's

We were surprised that the appointees didn't tour the dorms because the parents did. Our son did see the mock-up in the Visitors Center, though. We know a 4th class cadet, and we were able to take him out to dinner Friday night and learn more first-hand info. I have not seen a kid that hungry in a long time :D

I just left a voice mail message on the 1-800 # on the appointee tour registration form. Can't believe this weather! I haven't been in snow like this on 20+ years!

Hello- On the Academy's website it gives dates for tours until April 30th, and three dates in May, 4th,5th, and 7th. Will that be all of the tours offered, or will they post additional dates?? Thanks for any help!

An appointee has to commit by May 1st or so I thought. Not sure how they would have dates into May.

They still have the tours into May for those who have accepted their appointments and would like to tour the Academy if they haven't been there before. Since they no longer have orientation, this is the only time that some will be able to see USAFA before BCT starts.

Yep, exactly. May 7th is the last week of school, and there's not too much for an appointee to see during finals or prep week...

Lol on Friday, I arrived a full hour early on accident. I didn't know how traffic would be coupled with the weather, so I left Littleton, CO at o530.....there was a very nice gentleman who led me to the kitchen and gave me a cup of coffee.
Oh, one piece of advice for future tourists: bring warm shoes!
Puma, did you end up making it to the tour?
