I'm currently a rising junior in the Philadelphia area and USNA is my dream school. I know there's a lot of "what are my chances" posts but I really am interested to receive feedback so I can beef up my stats within the upcoming school year. I am ranked 5th in my class out of about 230 students. My GPA is a little over a 4.0. I take all honors courses that are available and this year I am taking 2 AP classes. I volunteer at my local hospital once a week and also actively volunteer through key club. I am an active member of my schools drama company, receiving parts in the musicals both freshman and sophomore year. I was also on stage crew for both years' dramas. I currently have two varsity letters. I have a part time job and I am a member of NHS. I have been on my schools mini-THON committee for the past two years. I have not taken the SATS/ACTS yet. Are my chances good? Is there anything I can do to improve my stats?

Two things I can think off:

    1) Find more leadership. I don't know sport you got varsity letters in but try to be a team captain. NHS should also have leadership positions to apply for at some point I would assume. You know better than I do where you could pick up solid leadership in a club or sport.

    2) Study. Then study again. Then study a bit more. You want to ace those ACT/SATs and retake them too. You do get more comfortable with the test, even if it takes 10 tries.

Do not get discouraged, the process is long and continuos, but with lots of motivation, you will succeed. Best of luck to you!

Agree with hopeful. Also study for the PSAT this fall and be sure to take it. It could lead to National Merit Scholarship money and that's always handy for a backup plan.

FYI - scholarship $$ can be used at USNA. It's added to your general account.
