As you can tell by my login name our DS started the application process for USAFA in spring of 2008, during his Junior year of HS. Although we do not have the military background in our family than some do, we knew he was taking on a major challenge. We discussed with him that he would need to be responsible for getting the app all completed. We did have to assist in some areas but he stayed on top of it and got it all completed by fall of his senior year. He took the SAT test 4 times during this time. The waiting game was long after this. He got a nomination in Jan of 09 and waited(some more) for the info. In mid march he got the dreaded TWE and was deflated. But only for a week as he received a Falcon Foundation offer the next week and accepted it pronto. In Sept of 2010, he headed to Northwestern Prep in SOCal. It was a great experience and he got to take the SAT test 3 more times and the ACT twice (if your keeping score that is 7 SAT test and 3 ACT). For you "what are my chances enthusiasts" his SAT score went from 1050 Math&CR to 1330 over this time. NWP is a one semester program and he headed back home and enrolled in the local JC. He got a nomination in Jan and received the appointment phone call from MOC office on his birthday this past Thursday. We were able to coordinate the phone call to our house with MOC staffer for the time when Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and cousins were over to celebrate his birthday. I even captured the call on video (that will come in handy for future use).

As Parents we are obviously proud and realize his achievement and know the wild ride is just starting. We are looking forward to the coming months. I want to thank all the great contributors to this website who give out great insights and info. Fleiger, Christcorp, Pima (to name a few) current cadets and appointees thanks for all your comments. I have learned a lot from this forum. We are looking forward to his days at the Academy and we will be visiting especially for the football games. GO FALCONS.

Now with great pride I will head over to the appointment thread and add our DS. Good luck to all other 2014 applicants. Thanks for reading my extended post.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Tell him congrats and good luck. His perseverance is commendable and it really paid off.

Congratulations to your son.....what a great time in their lives.....

I'm a second timer too! I talked to the superintendent at NWP and it seemed like a great opportunity-- decided to choose AFROTC for a year instead. See you in June :thumb:

WAY TO GO

I love hearing success stories sush as this. Look, if you want something bad enough and your willing to work your tail off for it, no goal is unattainable. I am sure he will do well at the Academy because he has already shown his ability to improve and acheive his goals. When they say "take the SAT and Act as many times as you can" they mean it.

Nice work.

Appointment received

Way to go! All the hard work has paid off and will continue to do so, as long as you work hard, each and everyday. Just remember what it says in the yard at the Academy. Integrity first, Service before self and Execellence in all we do,

Good luck and God Speed

Thank you for serving our country.
